trlt
My nephew received an invitation to the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC. The letter states that he was nominated by a teacher, which is named. I googled it and have found conflicting information. Is this a scam? bettyandbob
We got this too. Dh researched it. The group has a high Better Business Bureau rating, so it does appear to lat out ripping people off. However, it didn't appear to be anything to enhance a student's resume. And it was not clear how good the experience would be as far as how much direct field observation or other relevant experience would be offered. Dd said she wasn't interested so we didn't research further.
trlt
Thanks. It's really expensive. I read so many mixed reviews about it.
Excelsior! Academy
My nephew received an invitation to the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC. The letter states that he was nominated by a teacher, which is named. I googled it and have found conflicting information. Is this a scam? I did this when I was a child. It was a great experience. It was highly supervised and we got to tour D.C., had mock legislation, and ate at the National Press Club.
IsabelC
I'd ask the teacher who nominated your kid about it.
Barbara H
I know students who have participated in the program and they found it to be well organized and they enjoyed it. It can be a good educational experience. However, I would put it in the category of going to a high priced camp or paying for a vacation. It is not a meaningful honor and it won't build the child's college resume, but it might be an experience your student enjoys.
