JadeOrchidSong
My brother showed interest in having a watch as gift. I would like to spend between $50 and $100. Can you give me some recommendations? I saw reviews on Amazon, but they are only reviews after a few weeks or months's use. Thank you! lluv
The Seiko Coutura line is very nice. My husband had one for a long time and it held up beautifully, even after constant use. There are a few on Amazon for $100.

Orthodox6
Seiko. Always my favorite, for both men and women.
JadeOrchidSong
What is the best place to get cheaper Seiko? eBay, Amazon?
J-rap
I'd recommend a Fossil watch. They make some stunning men's watches!
gardenmom5
skagen has some nice ones on amazon in that price range. they are *very* thin. they also generally had good reviews. 1ds loves his. 1dd bought herself one because she could get a color she liked better. (she could easily afford to spend more.) 2ds's arm hair is too long though, and he dosen't like the mesh. (so, 1ds gave him his non-skagen watch in trade so 1ds now has two.) gardenmom5
Seiko. Always my favorite, for both men and women. can you get one for under $100? Mine was considerably more.
lavender's green
Fossil is good. I think it's often slightly above that price range, but a sale would help.
JadeOrchidSong
Dh has a Sears $100 gift card and found and bought a Citizen watch. Not my choice. I had wanted to get a Seiko or Fossil that I was deciding on. Now it is over.
Orthodox6
I don't think one can find this brand for under $100. Someone upstream had mentioned Seiko, however, so I added agreement. Citizen is not a bad watch. I just read that OP went that route. can you get one for under $100? Mine was considerably more.
JadeOrchidSong
Thank you, everyone. Now I begin to wonder why my new watch stopped working after a few months. Maybe I should get a brand watch, too, for my own enjoyment!
Orthodox6
Caravelle is a lower-priced line from Bulova. I have had one for many years without any problem.
shanvan
I've had my Citizen eco-drive for about 12 years. It's still running strong and no batteries to replace. When I bought it I paid a little over $100. Not sure what they go for now. When I worked at Macy's the Fossil watches were kept with costume jewelry. The 'serious' watches were kept with bridge and fine jewelry. I've always thought of Fossil as a fashion watch, but maybe they make a better watch as well. JadeOrchidSong
Dh called me and said he cannot buy with the gift card because the price is higher than $100 and he can't pay with two ways. I am glad, now I can buy the one I think is better. The one he chose is battery run. I will choose one of these three. Help me if you can to made a decision. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JT4CV0/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNP3I2/ref=gno_cart_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3CJ7AGH6TMGBG http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VYQK7E/ref=gno_cart_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1QE9WRQQKACA2 I personally like the second one. But my brother is a Chinese businessman and almost 60 years old. I lean toward toward the first one because it looks more expressive for its $495 price. Opinions? Orthodox6
If the recipient is slightly older (~60), he may find all of these hard on the eye. The faces are "busy", from all the additional features. The third one is easiest to read. If choosing among these three, I would check online user reviews for each model, from various websites. Sorry not to cast a vote. Hope he will be pleased with your choice! A watch always is a thoughtful present.
JadeOrchidSong
Good point! It is more for the looks than for the practical use. Basically, it means the more expensive it looks, the better. It is not my choice, but I have to choose one that looks expensive. I wish I didn't have to do this. But he asked for a watch, even a Rolax if I would buy it, but I cannot afford that.
Laura Corin
My husband and I both have men's Timex Indiglo watches - this model or similar. We've had them for about five years each and they have lasted well and been trouble free. It's a bit cheaper than you were talking about, but it's a great watch. Laura Laura, Mine is exactly the same!!! Thanks! I don't think my brother would appreciate it, though. He wants something that looks expensive! I don't even know if he will give it as a gift to win some favor in Zhengzhou or wear it himself.
lynn
I found my son a Relic watch from Kohls for about $60. He's had it for 2 years now and has not had any problems with it.
brookspr
I would also check out watches from Eddie Bauer. My husband worked there in college and has had one of his watches since then (1990). Something happened to it and they took it back and gave him a new one. Although they did not have the exact same watch they replaced it with one that was similar. Their return policy is extremely good, if at any time you are not completely satisfied you can return your purchase for a full refund. He said people used to come into the store with an obviously well worn item and they would take it back, no questions asked.
Orthodox6
There is the perspective that "simplicity of appearance indicates elegance and good taste." The more cluttered the watch face, the gaudier it can appear and, correspondingly, the "cheaper" it actually looks. This same principle is applied to clothing by some of the world's best-dressed people. Admittedly, I'm puzzled. If someone were to ask me for a Rolex as a gift, I would experience myriad unpleasant internal responses.
JadeOrchidSong
That is why it discounted my excitement of seeing my brother's family over the Pacific Ocean. I already purchased several expensive Coach bags for them and my friends. I have $500 budget allowed by dh. I never spend money on my own clothes, bags, or watches except the cheap or thrift store ones.
