I can't imagine doing that. I agree, that both programs are quite full already.

What exactly are you wanting to get from each program that makes you want to combine them?

I do combine for younger years. We do right side of HOD plus bible and science from left (sometimes art and music if we don't have anything that TOG week) we use TOG for history and literature. I only do this with elementary kids....right now a 2nd and Ker

I wouldn't do it either, but I think it could be done to an extent. Are you thinking that you would use TOG for history and lit and HOD for everything else... science, grammar, poetry, bible, writing, and possibly math. There is no way I would want to mesh TOG history with HOD history - that would indeed be overkill. But the first scenario would be doable.

I have a few thoughts on this. It would help to know what exactly you are considering. What parts of each would you like to combine? What age are your kids?

Wow, that would be a lot. We did HOD but decided not to continue because of how much time it took. I know so many people (here and IRL) who say how much work TOG is. I love both programs, but think it would be overkill!

Thank you, the reason behind this is adding in more of a fuller history picture. I am also keen on drawing in the more of the type of writing activities from TOG, rather than just written narrations say for example in HOD Preparing. I also see value in the teacher's notes. I would not use HOD as a full program nor TOG. I use CLE for LArts, Maths and foundation Reading. Then add in history, read alouds and literature from HOD. I am just looking for something that wil add educational value in terms of writing application to the history learned for a 8yrs old +. Thanks

I think combining HOD/TOG in this way would be too much. Plus, it really wouldn't work with Preparing because it is an overview year. Unless you already own all 4 years of TOG, that would be a huge expense for very little gain. It could work in the middle HOD guides, but as stated earlier they are both very full programs. To use both of them for history would be too much, IMO.

I wonder if you would be interested in IEW? From what I understand, it gives you the tools to create your own writing assignments and apply them to any topic.

I agree using them both for history would be too much. Have you looked into TOGs writing? Many do not like it and/or do not use it even if they use all other aspects of TOG.

It sounds like you have a lot covered, so both would be overkill.

I use both, but there is no cross over. I use HOD for things not in TOG....such as math, spelling, science, bible memory, etc

Thanks for that! Yes I have looked after your posts at IEW and I think that this is exactly what we are after. I can't see exactly what it covers in great detail, bit it looks like it will equip me to implement my own writing assignments. Perfect! THANK YOU
