5LittleMonkeys Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Would the elementary level work for a science savvy 5th grader, but have some components easy enough for a 2nd grader to tag along? Is it easy to adjust to 4 days? Is the experiment kit worth the cost? Thanks! Quote
~Amanda~ Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 which topic are you looking at getting? the elementary ones are geared for specific grades; if you're looking at biology, for instance, I would say no for a 5th grader... Quote
5LittleMonkeys Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 I was looking at the chemistry. Quote
~Amanda~ Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 i used chemistry with my then 4th and 5th grader. it was fine for us. she gives a breakdown of 2-days or 5 days a week, i dont see why you couldnt change it easily for 4 days Quote
elizabeth rose Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 my plan is chem or physics, probably chem for a 5th and 3rd grader. I think it will be fine. You can always assign other reading and longer narrations/reports if needed. I think it will work well though. Quote
Perogi Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Not to hijack....but is it possible to digitally download everything I'd need or does the workbook have to be purchased hard copy? Quote
~Amanda~ Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 you can download everything you need. I think you can probably get away without printing all of the student pages too, if you'd rather them do all the work in like a spiral or composition notebook. Quote
mom2myboys Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Have you looked at the samples? IIRC, the Biology sample pages listed all of the materials needed for the course. That would you give you an idea of whether buying the kit is worth it or not. I just purchased the Logic Stage Biology for my 6th and 3rd graders. I did not purchase the kit as the materials are things we already have or are easy to obtain. I have purchased an Apologia kit in the past and it is nice to have everything available and sorted by experiment for you. If budget wasn't such an issue, I may have splurged for the ES kit too. Looking at the 5-day schedule, the 5th day (in the LS Bio anyway) schedules one of the extra activities for that day. So you could easily skip that or add it to a day where the workload is lighter. I think there is a 2-day and 5-day schedule on the sample too. I can't remember if it is in the sample or just in the teacher's guide, but she does give you ideas for how to adapt the course for children of other ages. You could also email her and ask her thoughts. Best of luck deciding! Quote
