Mom0012
Any suggestions? My dd is using SL 5 for 5th and really likes it, but it's on the human body and the subject is presented in a very interesting way -- nutrition, changes the body goes through during puberty, and a lot more. I'm considering SL 6, which is Geology, Physics and Origins, but my library doesn't seem to have any of the books for me to take a look at. If I don't use SL, the only other thing I can think of is letting her pick one of the Apologia elementary books and use it with the notebooking journals. In 7th, she'll do Apologia General Science, I think, though I will present alternate views other than the author's since it is a creation-based science book (just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from). I don't mind her being introduced to creation-based ideas, but will also make sure she knows about the idea of evolution. TIA!

We are using Abeka science this year and I'm really quite impressed with it. I know it's workbooky and therefore not everybody's cup of tea, but it's nicely presented with color photos etc and is covering good information. I like Apologia Elementary too, but I'm still reading it sometimes just as part of our read-aloud time and, surprisingly, information is being retained even without doing the notebooking part along with it. It would probably be a good intro to Apologia General as it requires answers to quite detailed questions which will also be required for the Upper Apologia series. In regards to the creation stuff in General Science, they also talk quite a lot about evolution in the text too and compare aspects of the two concepts. I thought this was good because I didn't want my kids to be uninformed about evolution either. Anyway, hope this helps.
Chris in VA
We almost homeschooled sixth and were considering Science Shepherd. The experiment book was not from the same publisher but we really liked it. It's life science. Also we liked WTM recs for sixth.

I may have my dd take a look at Apologia's catalog and see if there's a topic there that appeals to her. This is the first time my kids will be doing 2 different science programs. Thanks, I'll take a look at Science Shepherd and crack open TWTM to see what the recs are there.
