staceyobu Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I say girls don't like the show. He says I'm too big a nerd to appreciate it. Quote
charcat13 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I thought it was funny when I was a teenager. Haven't seen it in years but my husband and I still make cultural references to it. Quote
Snow Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Definitely lame. Not even when it was first out and I was a teenager. Quote
MomtoCandJ Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Ugh ranks with American dad, family guy, bob's burgers. Dh watches them and he lets dd if he is. I think it's all stupid Quote
Arcadia Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Hubby finds it boring too. He is a geek nerd though :) Quote
Parrothead Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 That is the dumbest show. I get why it is supposed to be funny. It just isn't. I do love the original 3 stooges Quote
Alte Veste Academy Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Hate it. And I love Family Guy and like American Dad (though they do make me groan at times). Quote
bodiesmom Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I thought it was funny when I was a teenager. Haven't seen it in years but my husband and I still make cultural references to it. Exactly this. :-) Quote
BakersDozen Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 "Stupid" is not even the word I would choose for that or any other show like it. Could you put a poll option that is worded a bit more strongly? ;) Obviously, you know which way I voted (although I only watched about 3 minutes of it once just to see what it was about; that 3 minutes was all I needed to feel like I needed to bleach my brain). Quote
Tita Gidge Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm a girl who has never seen it. I voted Other, but have had my curiousity sufficiently piqued. I should've Googled it before I voted, because now I want to know whether it's horrible, tolerable, or stupid :) Quote
Desert Rat Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Beavis and Butthead are tolerable. I have to deal with certain shows because I married a man. The show I really can't stand right now is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Ugh. Dh loves that show. I think it's mean spirited and dumb. And it's all dh wants to talk about somedays. Drives me bananas. I think I'm definitely in for tough times with all men in the house. LOL Quote
SKL Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I do think it might be a gender thing. Boys and even men seem to like it. I find it cringeworthy at best. But the funny thing is, sometimes I want to tell my girls (age 6) how their antics remind me of Beavis and Butthead. But I don't want to give them the context, so I keep it to myself. ;) Quote
Jenn121 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 My husband and I met in 1993 and we would get together in the dorms and watch the Simpsons and Beavis and Butthead. So romantic I know. Our cat is named Beavis. Nowadays........It is not fun with out my hubby. I bought him the episodes on DVD but they do not have the B&B doing the music video commentary and that was the funniest part! Watching it without the music videos is not in anyway as much fun. ETA: Finish my thought and make a complete sentance. LOL I am tired. Quote
nmoira Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I loved the opening scene from the movie. Other than that... not so much. Quote
Shawna in Texas Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I find it a bit more than tolerable. I like it when they're in Spanish class and I love watching the music video parts. I discovered Ween from them. :tongue_smilie: I love their Radiohead Creep clip. DH on the other hand. *sigh* He's had a 20 year crush on Mike Judge. Luckily for me, most of the stuff he's put out since then has been brilliant. Quote
LaxMom Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Stupid. My husband - not a girl - also thinks it's stupid, if I recall correctly, but appreciates that stupid is the point of it. Quote
Kalypso Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I could never make myself watch it. I saw the first couple of minutes a few times and that was as far as I could go. Quote
Cinder Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think it's stupid, my dh thinks it's stupid, and even my 2 ds's think it's stupid. Quote
dsmith Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I thought it was funny when I was a teenager. Now it's just stupid. Quote
brookspr Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Sorry, I think it's hilarious. But I've always enjoyed guy humor. When I was in my 20's I had as many girl friends as guy friends and we were always goofing around, playing pranks, and doing stupid stuff. Quote
Lady Florida. Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think it's stupid. I was well into my adult years when it came out so maybe that has something to do with it. Also: I hate The Three Stooges, can take or leave The Simpsons, and think Family Guy is funny most of the time. Quote
Orthodox6 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Everybody in my household, both males and females, consider this show intolerable and offensive. We don't watch it. (Voted "other".) Quote
Ellie Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Stupid. But they do have a funny laugh. Quote
Mama Geek Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think it is stupid and my dh would rather have a root canal than to have to watch it. Quote
BarbecueMom Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I watched it growing up. Tolerable. It wasn't a favorite, but I didn't hate it. Still quote it sometimes. I loved Daria, though. How stereotypically female of me. Quote
Word Nerd Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think it's both hilarious and stupid. Quote
Hwin Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I like Simpsons and Futurama. I liked South Park for a little while but stopped watching after the Christmas anti-Christ abortion episode. Do NOT like Beavis and Butthead, Family Guy, and a few others along the same lines. I tolerate American Dad because it has Patrick Stewart in it and because I only want to punch HALF the characters in the face. Quote
Unicorn. Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I say girls don't like the show. He says I'm too big a nerd to appreciate it. My husband didn't like it either. And he's most certainly not a girl. I guess we see too many stupid people IRL, for garbage like that to be funny. Quote
somo_chickenlady Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think it is funny, but I also like South Park and Family Guy (don't like Simpsons.) Beevis and Butthead started I think when I was in high school, and I have watched it from the beginning. Quote
Guest inoubliable Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I thought it was hilarious as a teen. In fact, my ex and I left our junior prom early to catch the B&B movie in the theater. Quote
charcat13 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Just remembered: Anytime I would threaten my older stepbrother with telling our parents he was up to something he'd start chanting, "Breaking the law, breaking the law!" Quote
MissKNG Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Just thinking about Beavis and Butthead makes me feel dumber. Quote
Bug's Mom Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Hilarious. Keep in mind that dh & I owned a small guitar shop at the time....so we were surrounded by real-live Beavis & Buttheads every day. Some we laughed with, some we still laugh about. One gave us a phrase that we still use today: "Dude! Black is a badass color!" Quote
bobbeym Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I thought B&B was funny when it first came out. I'm sure now I'd only find myself suffering through DH watching it, which thankfully he does *not*. I do suffer through American Dad episodes though. Futurama and Bob's Burgers are a huge favorite in my house. I don't even mind The Simpsons too much, although I'd have much preferred my kids never have seen it. South Park and Family Guy aren't watched in our house anymore b/c DH was very strongly against their anti-Christian story lines recently. Quote

My DH would also like to recommend Trailer Park Boys to your DH. Have fun! ;) edited to add... I feel very vindicated by this survey. Quote
wapiti Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Stupid. Though, I do get a chuckle remembering a guy in law school sitting next to me in contracts, giggling and muttering, "heh, heh heh, he said _______, heh heh" (fill in the blank with whatever the professor said) Quote

We laughed so hard. We love It's Always Sunny. One of DH's text tones is Charlie screaming. Quote
MtnMama Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'll admit to being amused by Beavis & Butthead. And I love Daria! I also like The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad nd South Park. I draw the line at Tosh.0 though. Quote
nmoira Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Heck, Shakes the Clown is one of my favourite movies. Who am I to judge? :D Quote
misty.warden Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm a nerd, but I don't see what that has to do with whether or not it's funny. My SO thinks it's hilarious, he likes SpongeBob and Ren and Stimpy too and is nerdier than I am. I say it's in the same group as those two, Adam Sandler and Will Farrell movies. I'm not a body/rude humor person in general though. Quote
Dandelion Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 It's not just stupid, it's stoopid. Quote
Word Nerd Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I still say it's a false dichotomy. Why can't something be stupid and hilarious? Quote
Robin M Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Stupid just doesn't cut it. Beyond icky, annoying, stomach turning, hold nose, breath through my teeth nauseating. Quote
Mrs Mungo Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Stupid is not a strong enough word, but that is what I voted. Quote
Mrs Mungo Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I still say it's a false dichotomy. Why can't something be stupid and hilarious? Good point. Stupid *and* unfunny *and* vile would come closer to describing my feelings. Quote
nmoira Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I still say it's a false dichotomy. Why can't something be stupid and hilarious? It can be, but then it's rather brilliant in its own way... like Dougal in Father Ted. Quote
Bug's Mom Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Heck, Shakes the Clown is one of my favourite movies. Who am I to judge? :D Yes! We have a hard time finding people who've seen that movie. I always suggest that if they're going to watch it that they do a mini Brady Bunch marathon first... Quote
Rebel Yell Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 OTHER! I'm a girl and I think it;s both hilarious AND stupid! I'm assuming we're talking about the old shows- they're nto remaking this are they? O.o DH & I will sometimes quote the show- a favorite was when it was a bitter cold day and we were pushing Gramma's wheelchair uphill so she could watch her great-granddaughter in a parade. The shortest. fastest way to where we needed to be included jaywalking- so I told her to hang on tight as I took off running diagonally across an (empty at the time- I'm not stupid!) intersection while shouting "Breakin' the Law! Breakin' the Law!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBZClrxDLQ Quote
