shanvan
Just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about..... Yesterday in one of Parrothead's threads several of us mentioned that our dogs peed on the floor. My dog who had the accident yesterday was our old guy. So today was free of dog pee, but I've got to tell you about last night after I posted in that thread. I took Ds and his Cocker Spaniel to a brand new training facility for an agility class. This new facility has a policy in their literature that states if a dog has an accident in the building the owner will have to pay a $10 fine. Dd's dog will mark if she isn't careful, so I'd probably not take him. No problem for Ds's dog b/c he never does anything in our usual training facility. Right. He was running the course w/ Ds and doing everything he was told even though he's a nervous dog in new situations. Well, he's very talented at agility and apparently great with balance b/c he got to the top of the A frame on his 2nd run and perched there to have his bowel movement. The trainer was on the other side and couldn't see, but wondered why he was just stopped there. Then it began to dawn on her. All she said is "is he? is he?" You could have heard a pin drop and boy did we get looks from the other handlers. Mercifully, I was never asked to pay the $10. ETA: Today was indeed free of doggie accidents. Parrothead
Yea! No poop or pee here today either. Baxter is still a bit weary today because yesterday I smacked him with my pee-wet sock.
jeninok
We had to put our old girl down last month, I miss my sweet girl everyday, even though it wasn't as heart wrenching as I expected. I think I did my grieving in the year leading up to it and it was so clearly time it felt like a blessing....don't send me a bunch of hugs though, that is likely to make me cry :crying: But I didn't realize how much work it was caring for her, and cleaning up her messes. We have been pee and poop free for over a month, and what a relief it is not to be constantly cleaning up after her and trying to make sure she could go outside 85 million times a day. Our dog before any of the current canines ended up in the same situation and it got to the point of me having to carry him outside to do his business (in the snow, of course). Then he'd rally for a few days and then I'd be back to carrying him outside again. It's heart-wrenching when they get to that point. Hope I didn't make you cry. I had a flashback to that time this week and started wondering how long we have with our sweet old gentleman (border collie).

He was a border collie too. I let it go too long. Not an easy thing.

No tears, its just the condolences and hugs and such that get me, talking about it is good! She always had perfect house manners, until a year or so ago when we had what we thought was a this is it, say goodbye emergency. She was peeing blood, scary smelly blood,so we rushed her to the ER thinking kidney failure. Turns out despite the cancer, and being 15 and years of skin problems, all of her major organs were functioning beautifully and her white blood count was within normal ranges as well. Antibiotics for about a month, daily cranberry pills, and clear pedialyte to keep her hydrated did the trick, and her tinkle went back to mostly normal most of the time. But there for a while we had to just leave the back door open all the time and she would still have accidents. The vet kept saying I would know when it was time, that as long as she still had the spark we could keep going.....she was right, I knew when it was time, and it was a blessing for lack of a better word. The last two months we had to go back to door open all the time, only this time it was her just pooping without realizing it. And her eyesight, hearing, and muscle tone were deteriorating. But we had 16 good years! Our male hound is 5, and crazy blonde mix is 2, and I am so glad we have years to go!!
