There was a little girl who had a little curl.....

Ya know how things sometimes fall through the cracks in education?

Ours right now is nursery rhymes. Great idea for memorization lessons this week!

Ds9 and I are sitting at the table reciting nursery rhymes he's working on.

He starts, "There was a little girl who had a little curl....." And he gets stuck.

So, I give him a hint by pointing to my forehead.

His response, "Wrinkles?"

Touches a mother's heart, that.

Next lesson, Dealing with (Angry) Women 101.

:laugh:

What horrible, painful memories that rhyme brings up for me. My mother seemed determined to make me look as physically ugly as possible. She forced me to have very short hair until I was seventeen and stubborn enough to defy her. When I was in the first grade, every day she sent me off to school with a small cinnamon-roll-shaped curl in the middle of my forehead, after shellacking the abomination into immobility with that disgusting "Dippity-Do" gel. She would recite that rhyme while preparing me to go forth into a day of verbal bullying.

Vent over.

Not to worry! Both DD and I have long, straight hair definitely below our shoulders! :001_smile:

(It just was strange to hear that rhyme which, I think, rarely is remembered these days.)

Aw, Orthodox 6. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm sorry I brought up bad memories. Words can be so hurtful.

I use this one and "I never saw a purple cow" a lot with Melissa....I wonder if it's because I'm an old lady of 48?

It's popular around here. I picked out about 20 nursery rhymes from the book I had growing up. It was a gift from my British grandmother. Maybe it's a British thing?

Our other favorite is:

Dirty Little, dirty Little,

Eats among the garbage cans,

Never washes, never cleans,

Ach, tooey, Dirty Little.

It's a little song. And I sing it when my kids make big messes. :)

I don't know that one. I do, however, remember reading Gelett Burgess' book "The Goops" (which your rhyme reminds me of).

I have a child who was the personificaiton of that rhyme (except for the lack of curl).

since the rest goes: when she was good, she was very very good, and when she was bad she was horrid.

no middle ground at all. even then, I refused to recite it to that child as I didn't want them to develop a "complex".

I know that one too. My entire extended family have curly hair of the wavy kind.

My boys used to be tickled by the "What are little boys made of" nursery rhyme

"What are little boys made of?

What are little boys made of?

Frogs and snails,

And puppy-dogs' tails;

That's what little boys are made of.

What are little girls made of?

What are little girls made of?

Sugar and spice,

And all that's nice;

That's what little girls are made of."
