Pistorius, Olympic double amputee, held in domestic shooting investigation

I know...it's awful whether is was domestic violence or an accident.

I've been surprised there hasn't been more discussion here about this. I think it is very hard to know what's going on at this point. I hope the evidence makes it clearer. Very sad no matter which explanation is right.

I have read quite a few news stories about it, and if the reports are even remotely accurate, it sure seems like he murdered her.

Well, no question IMO he's not someone with the judgment to have guns in the house. Reckless in the extreme. But if her bladder was empty, and the bullet trajectory is consistent with him not having his prosthetics on, it sounds more consistent with his story than the prosecution's. Supposedly on cross ex it seemed that the witness who heard screaming and fighting was several blocks away, and the prosecution conceded they had no forensic evidence to contradict his story as found in the affidavit.

Yeah, the stories keep changing. We'll probably never know what really happened, but it's so hard for me to imagine that this was just an accident, unless Oscar is really and truly a complete and utter moron. (And I don't think he is.)

 

I would like to believe that this was just a tragic accident, but Oscar's story seems so implausible to me. I just keep wondering how many intruders would take a quick break from invading Oscar's home and walk right past him to take a quick potty break in the master bathroom.

I just can't wrap my mind around someone shooting through a shut bathroom door when you know someone else is staying in your home. I also can't believe she wouldn't have screamed out after the first shot.

And what's the story with the bloody cricket bat? They mentioned it on the news a few times, but I haven't heard anything since.

 

I would think that if there's a bloody bat involved, and the blood proves to be his girlfriend's, there will be no way Oscar will be able to come up with an excuse for that.

What I have heard is that he thought the intruder came in through the bathroom. The bathroom window was unlocked and workmen had left ladders against the house in that area, so he imagined that someone had come in that way and then was hiding in the toilet when he called out.

 

After he shot and realized it was probably Reeva, he couldn't get into the locket toilet room so he put on his prosthetics to try to kick in the door. When that didn't work he broke down the compartment door with the cricket bat so he could unlock it and get her out and try to take her to the hospital.

 

Again, that's just his story. Who knows at this point.

 

The part that just seems implausible to me is that he wouldn't have called for her and started to wonder when she didn't reply from the bed if that was her in the toilet. Apparently both sides concede it is pitch black in his bedroom with the drapes closed. Not trying to turn this into a gun debate, but this is why I think some folks shouldn't have guns. If his story is right, he was way too disoriented at 3 am to make good decisions.
