pehp Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 This is a really out-of-left-field question, but I haven't come up with anything good yet, so I thought I would ask the Hive. ;) My son is REALLY interested in music boxes, how they work, how they are made. We found a couple of youtube videos, but they weren't stellar (he isn't interested in the large, disc boxes--but the small jewelry-type boxes). I checked How Things Work and didn't find anything. I feel a bit stumped. Anyone have any knowledge of where I could go to find a good resource on how music boxes are made/constructed? He is particularly interested in the innerworkings. (He already made a mock music box with K'nex today, and has drawn several more plans, but we haven't found a good detailed description of *what* everything is inside one.) Thanks for any help you can give on this one!! :) Quote

Arcadia Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 This is the most detailed instruction I could find so far http://www.bettermus...nstructions.asp As a kid, I had unscrew small music boxes (that my cousins don't mind me destroying) and reverse engineered those. ETA: This page does not have instructions but have a nice history and explanation of music boxes Quote
