jillian
So we've been using SM and I keep hearing Beast Math this and Beast Math that, so what's the scoop?
Five More Minutes
Beast Academy is a curriculum for Gr. 2 - 5 currently being developed and published by the same folks who create AoPS. It uses a graphic format for the text, introduces concepts in a thought-provoking way, and includes mind-stretching problems. There are 4 sections per grade: A, B, C, D. Each section has a guide (graphic text) and practice book (consumable student workbook). They plan to complete Gr. 3, then 4, then 5, then go back and do Gr. 2. In a couple of weeks we should be able to purchase 3D, making the third grade complete; other sections will be released every 5 months or so. (So all 4 sections of Gr. 4 should be finished around October 2014.)
delaney
I got it for my DD but she is not into that format so I am saving it for my DS who will love it. Mine is good with just TT for now. She wants it to be over as fast as she can.
jillian
We use Singapore and what dd calls m&m math--basically use mini m&ms as manipulatives. I think we would be ready for beast math after we work through sm 3. I wish they has two out now :( since I think that's be perfect for dd. she could do about 1/3 of the placement/assessment for 3a with beast math but I'd prefer us to have some more basics under our belt. jillian
It's disappointing but I have faith that when we are ready for it hopefully we can use it without too much interruption
