Trillian
Since some had asked me about doing LLLOTR with my 10 yo son, I though I would update now that we are a little bit further in. He *loves* it. In fact, we're n break this week and he asked to continue doing the study. I cannot stress how unusual this is for him - he does not, in general, like school. We're nearly halfway through The Fellowshaip. I started with a couple of the unit studies; had I to do it over again, I would have started with the book. Even though he's heard it before and asked to have it again, I think getting him not the book before starting the studies would have been smarter. Also, he asked me to read it to him (again), so I am. We're doing most everything orally, although he's doing some of the Unit Studies written and he's doing the test, only because I want him to start practice testing. It's been just what I wanted though, introducing us to a way of talking about books and opening up talking about the books he's reading as well. The whole study should take us quite a lot of time but I hope I'm as effective as getting discussions going when we're done with it.
