Guest
For the history and science cards that are optional for Classical Conversations, I was wondering what you should buy. For both history and science, there are 3 cycles and 4 sets of cards? Is there a certain set that corresponds with each cycle, or is it a mixture of the cards and the cycles? I would like those, but I'm just not sure which ones to buy or if I would need to buy them all? (eek.)
mama25angels
I think you would need to buy all of the history cards because you learn them all each cycle. I do believe that you can buy the science cards for the cycle that you're on.
Guest
ohhh. okay. Now I am confused! I thought you were in a certain time period each year?
mama25angels
ohhh. okay. Now I am confused! I thought you were in a certain time period each year? You are sort of, you will go over all of the cards each cycle, but the history sentences are for a specific time period. Cycle 2's sentences will be for the Reformation up through the study of WWII. You can look at the science cards and see which set you'll need for cycle, the cycle 2 set would be ecology, physical world and astronomy. The history cards are for the timeline (starts with Age of Ancient Empires and goes through present day). The entire timeline is learned every cycle. The history sentences are unique to each cycle. Guest
okay, I think I got it then. So, we can buy all the history, and we can buy the science for the cycle.
stm4him
Yes. Also, some people buy the first two sets of history cards for the fall and the second set for the spring to split up the cost. For the science cards I recommend the scientist cards as well which fit into the sequence. You definitely don't need them but my kids really enjoy learning the scientists too and there are a lot of them for Cycle 2. You don't NEED the science cards at all but in my house we memorize the front of the cards and my kids copy it (and the memory work question and answer on the back) and draw a picture. Next year I may even have them use it to define the terms in their notebook. I love them and it is the main part of our science program (in combination with the experiments from CC). All we add in are living books and science encyclopedias for extra information.....
