nknapp5 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I am looking for a history curriculum that I can just read to my dd 1st and ds K together. I am not wanting any worksheets b/c she is behind in her reading. A coloring sheet to go along would be great. Something simple! I have VP history but it would be too hard for them and not enough reading. Plus that is actually suppose to be started in the 2nd I think. Any suggestions would be great. I understand many would not start history cur. at this age, but I am wanting to add a little something else to the school day :) Quote
Five More Minutes Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I did Story of the World last year with dds 6 & 4. They loved it, especially when I incorporated colouring pages and projects from the Activity Guide. Quote
lexi Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I second Story of the World with activity guide. Or you could look at Elemental History for American history. Quote
Hunter Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 What Your First Grader Needs to Know? Generally I strongly advocate the use of the ORIGINAL hardcover Doubleday series for a long-term integrated full curriculum, but since you are only going to be using it for one year, and possibly for one subject, I suggest just getting the Kindergarten and/or 1st grade revised books. They are more colorful. The art, music and literature are beautiful in revised books. You might decide you like more than the history and geography. Quote
Hunter Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I can't find good samples online, but CBD at least has the table of contents. Quote
mschickie Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 We did Sonlight Core B for 1st grade. Dd loved it. I also purchased a supplement from Handle on the Arts that had great projects to go along with it. Sonlight also has a tips cd now that has links for activities and coloring sheets that you can print out. Quote
MFA323 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 DD4 always sits in for DD6's SOTW lessons. She loves it. She usually wants to answer the AG questions after we read. I make an extra copy of each coloring page for her. She's retaining a lot more than I expected. I got the SOTW1 CDs for the two of them for Christmas. They both love listening to them in the car or their room. Quote
alisoncooks Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Are you looking for world history? A particular time period? I've got Elemental History (American) on tap for next year for a young 2nd grader and K'er. It does have some notebooking pages, but it also has activities and coloring. And lots of living book suggestions. Quote
IceFairy Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Another vote for Story of the World here. Quote
Holly Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 History for Little Pilgrims in nice for that age. It also has a coloring book to go with it. It is mostly Bible, church, and American history. Quote
