Jean in Newcastle Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 A very very late invitation to come over for a hot drink and some dessert. I'm going to have chocolate walnut brownies. Bring something if you'd like. If not, I'm sure there will be enough for all! I've got a bad headache. I was gone from 9 - 5 pm today. Ministry isn't for wimps! How was your weekend? Today's totally random question: Have you had to scrape your windshield free of snow or ice or frost lately? Quote
Chelle in MO Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Mmmm...LOVE those brownies! Here's some vanilla ice cream to go w/them! I'm sorry you have a headache. That's miserable. I can't imagine being a pastor's wife, Jean. Whew. I've had a great weekend except for one sad thing...I found out last night that my mentor/older friend when ds17 was a baby died in November. We had lost touch when she moved quite a while ago, and I had Googled her repeatedly w/out success. I mentioned it to dh last night, and he Googled and found her obituary. I had always hoped that we could reconnect someday. Not until heaven, now. :crying: And no, no scraping lately. Quote
AK_Mom4 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I have scraped my windshield daily since October. I have the only car with a block heater, so everyone else gets to park in the garage and my car parks outside. I'll bring some double chocolate fudge (marshmellow creme, chocolate chips and grated hershey bars). It's been a good weekend, but I have a cold and the combination of a cold and Sunday afternoon always makes me crave chocolate.... Quote

Today's totally random question: Have you had to scrape your windshield free of snow or ice or frost lately? I just had a mocha frappe from Burger King as my dessert and drink in one! ;) Not a huge fan of them, but it wasn't bad. :D I'm feeling worn out tonight. A little bit hurting all over - I'm the choir director for our easter musical at church and today sort of wore me out - we had practice 3-6 and tryouts for solos til almost 7. I know it's because I've been a little lazier than I should be lately that I'm hurting lol... ;) I was just standing up but it made my (sorry tmi) cramps about 20x worse and by the end my arm was hurting - and my head lol. :p Other than that the weekend has been ok. I'm a little disappointed because I went to find a bookshelf yesterday and couldn't find one that was what I wanted ANYWHERE. Sigh. I'm thinking about having DH make me one... No snow for me! Or ice. Thank goodness! I would happily take that 77 degree day we had a couple weeks ago again! :) Quote
Starr Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I'll come visit but we just had chocolate fondue with our college students from church. They love everything we cook. It's not *college food*. It turns me into a fabulous cook. lol Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 My headache is getting a bit better. I really didn't mean to imply that I didn't like ministry. Sundays can be long but it is the one day that we can devote to it without worrying about school or work responsibilities. The weekend was good, actually. It's been busy but when is my life not busy?! I'm sorry about your loss, Chelle. We had to scrape frost off this morning. And it made me grumpy because I didn't expect it and didn't allow extra time to do it. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Wow, Kara, you had an even longer day than I did! Quote

Not that you didn't like it, just that it's often exhausting and headache-inducing! Thank you for the sympathy. And I'm glad your headache is getting better! Quote
Mama Geek Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I am waiting for my orange slushy to thaw enough to eat. We had a good time at a Mardi Gras parade today even though dh has a pretty nasty sinus infection. Dd has tons of beads and a couple new stuffed animals to add to her collection. The weather in LA has been pretty warm. I haven't had to scrape frost or snow in more than a year and it is probably closer to 3 years. Quote
mommaduck Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 In SC, at one of my sisters' houses. It's been a busy and fun weekend. The cousins have all been having a blast! We found a house. We found a parish. I've been having a blast. We got four of us sisters together (there are six sisters and four brothers in all, not counting spouses) and our kids. Quote
PeacefulChaos Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Your dh makes bookshelves???? Oh, never mind...the o's weren't capitalized! ;) HAHAHA! no, I'm looking for the regular kind for the boys' room. But I'm sort of particular - I have this idea of what I want and I'm thinking it doesn't exist. Quote

shanvan Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Now I really want brownies irl! I'll bring cold milk, b/c that's what I like with my brownies--but I'll share with anyone else who wants some. Glad to hear your headache is getting better. This weekend was pretty relaxing. Sat was great b/c I was productive, but I did whatever tasks I felt like doing. I do wish I had finished more lesson plans. Now I'm too tired and I just really dislike doing them at night. I have no problem writing them, but digging out books and resources at night bothers me for some reason. One of the best surprises of the weekend was the talk I had with Dh and Dc. I've been reading through Help for the Harried Homeschooler by Christine Field and I took her advice to talk to my family about whether or not we are truly spending time exploring the things that make our family unique, and whether we are spending our time wisely. I asked them what types of things they feel we aren't doing enough of as a family. I tried prompting them a little to get more responses (you see I have quite a list of the ways I think I'm failing to spend time--at least I imagine I do). The only thing they could name that we aren't doing enough of is art. All the other things they could think of we are already doing even if we aren't doing them quite as often as we'd like. That is all they came up with! It is ridiculous how happy that made me. :) I will have to scrape my windshield tomorrow, most likely, since I managed to avoid it today by using Dh car. Quote
Coffeemama Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 HAHAHA! no, I'm looking for the regular kind for the boys' room. But I'm sort of particular - I have this idea of what I want and I'm thinking it doesn't exist. I ran into that and my DH made a gorgeous shelf for me, but since he's not a carpenter by trade (just plays one on tv) the shelf heights were a little off...he didn't consider the thickness of the actual shelves when dividing it up... So the very top is fairly useless and one of the shelves is only high enough for small paperbacks. If i wasn't so into categorizing by subject it probably wouldn't be a big deal.... Quote
lollie010 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hi ladies. Can I join in for a bit? I couldn't make anything to bring. It's been a tough emotional day. I hate to bust up a cheery party with my tales of woe, so after getting a few much needed hugs I am going to edit my post and enjoy the brownies! Oh I just realized that hubby left some of his famous bread pudding. I have plenty to share, just need to warm it a little and whip up some fresh cream. :) Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Laurel, I am so sorry. That sounds terribly stressful. Quote
lollie010 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Thx so much ladies. I really am already feeling strengthened. I haven't felt comfortable laying it all out IRL because its just all too much and then others might feel awkward around me. <3 Quote
OnTheBrink Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Laurel: Wow, what a burden to carry right now! So sorry for your troubles. May God give you strength and comfort. As for the party, I'm on WW, so I'll bring crudites and unsweetened iced tea. My weekend was ok. My dd turned 15 this week and we had a slumber party in a hotel suite. A co-worker has a friend who's a hotel manager and we got the employee rate. I was thrilled! So, me, 4 teenagers and 5 bags of junk food spent Saturday night in a 2 br suite. I gave the girls the "master" bedroom with the king bed, and I took the smaller room. They were very well-behaved. I did have to encourage them to not prance about because of the chance of other guests in the rooms below, but other than that, it was fine. They swam, ate junk, played Avengers Monopoly, watched movies, painted their faces, giggled, screeched, laughed and pretty much left me to my own devices. LOL I holed up in the other bedroom, watched Say Yes to The Dress and other TLC shows and actually got some sleep. I got called in to cover for someone who was sick Saturday evening, but that was only for 6 hours, so it wasn't bad. Church today was good. The youth did the evening service, and dd played the piano and sang. Tonight, I filed my fed taxes and am delighted to find out I'm getting a much larger refund than I thought. So, the Cincy convention and all that goes with it is paid for! Woo! Quote
Desert Rat Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Laurel and Chelle :grouphug: :grouphug: (One for each of you!) It seems to me this year is going to be one of sadness. At least from my end. Jean, I grew up a PK. I totally understand how a day can be uplifting and fullfilling, but so very, very long! Sundays were that way for us more often than not. :) I had friends over for dinner tonight and we had a wonderful time with homemade angel food cake and fruit for dessert. It was a hit! We had a busy weekend with the archery tournament. Today I was disappointed because I finally found the new entertainment center I wanted and we couldn't get it because I couldn't help dh lift it (at Costco). So, dh and my brother are going to get it later this week. I also got the boys' clothes sorted for spring/summer. It's starting to warm up already. I'm kinda ready for this next week. Kinda. :) And obviously, because I'm already getting out the summer stuff, I don't even know how to scrape windshields. Quote
readinmom Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I am also having some brownies...dark chocolate, and some tea. I spent today sleeping, doing some laundry, and signing up for some online survey sites. I also made a huge batch of spaghetti sauce for dinner, and freeze the rest for later in the month. Being the parent of a teenager is exhausting sometimes. I picked up ds at 1 a.m. this morning. He and friends had a movie party after their school dance. He had a great time, but it left me tired. Oh, too be young... Quote
chepyl Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I had some guacamole and chocolate chips :) I had a great weekend: rehearsal for music man, birthday party for my friends little girl (got to see my high school buddies), left the big kids at my parent's house, went to dinner with DH and the baby, cleaned the house while kids were spending the night with grandparents, went to church, and now we are just hanging out. We had school outside last week because it was mid 60s, but we may have snow and ice on Tuesday. I have only scrapped my windshield once this winter. Quote
myfunnybunch Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Jean, I hope your headache is better by now. I'll bring leftover birthday cake. Our former homestay student lives in an apartment nearby and came over for dinner, and we surprised her with a late birthday cake, "frosted" with whipped cream. We've got lots left over! My weekend was slow. We went out for dinner to celebrate our 13th anniversary. Other than that, nothing too interesting, just cleaning, re-covering some of the dining chairs, church. Slow was good, though. I needed a rest. No snow or frost on the windshield lately. Cat Quote
