mskelly Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 If you make your own reading list for your kids, do you have favorite resources you pull from? I've looked at AO, Sonlight, Veritas Press, Oak Meadow, HoD, FIAR, and MBtP. Am I missing any great lists? I do have the WTM book that I need to look at again. My kids are 6 and 8 if that helps. THanks! Quote
SharonUF Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 A lurker here popping in, I am trying to do the same thing. My head is swimming and feels ready to explode! I have looked at Ambleside, Old Fashioned Education, Robinson, Accelerated Achievement (A2), Great Books, and Yesterday's Classics. Not to mention seeing lists of books for boys, plus books in Honey for a Child's Heart, etc. My problem is that I want to do them ALL. I have A2 and YC, so I guess I should make a booklist that will work with what I have. Also, I have looked at the forum and the web until I am cross-eyed and can find nothing that has that YC aligned with SOTW for history, either. Does anyone know of somewhere to find that? I do not think my poor brain can take anymore! :confused1: Quote
SharonUF Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I found this booklist to end all booklists! http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/345347-medival-moms-book-list-in-pdf/page__hl__+medieval%20+mom%20+list?do=findComment&comment=3994778 I think I can see the fog clearing with this list in hand. Now to make a list for my library visit tomorrow. It's a good thing they have a limit, because I would probably try to check out way to many. ;) Quote
Lori D. Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 In addition to browsing book lists of Sonlight, Ambleside Online, and Veritas Press (which you mentioned above) I also got a lot of ideas from the 1000 Good Books list. I also went from my memory of good books I thoroughly enjoyed from my childhood. ;) Where do you get your reading lists is a thread with LOADS of links to all kinds of book lists to overload you. :tongue_smilie: Here are some "oldies-but-goodies" not usually found on many lists, but well-written, ideal for reading aloud to ages 6 and 8 (boys and girls), and worth looking for: - Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet; Stowaway to the Mushroom Planet; Mr. Bass' Planetoid; Time and Mr. Bass (Cameron) - The Rescuers, The Turret, Miss Bianca, Miss Bianca in the Salt Mines, Miss Bianca in the Orient (Sharpe) - Baby Island (Brink) -- the shipwreck aspect will appeal to boys as well as girls - The Shades (Brink) -- OOP, and very hard to find, but very creative - No Flying in the House (Brink) - Pippi Longstockings; Pippi in the South Seas (Astrid) - Moomintroll series (Jansson) - Alfred Hitchcock's Haunted Houseful (Hitchcock) - Miss Pickerell series (MacGregor) More "unknown" older ones, more for girls: - Twig (Jones) - Two are Better Than One (Brink) - Happy Hollister series (West) - Raggedy Ann and Andy series (Gruelle) Happy reading! Warmest regards, Lori D. Quote
