butterflymommy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I know there are others here lurking in the shadows... I love high carb foods, I don't think they're bad for me, they are the staples of our kitchen. :001_smile: So if your family is like mine and has lots of breads, fruit, potatoes, grains, cereals, pizza etc. on hand please share! We also have lots of much-maligned 100% fruit juice on hand. And we love cookies, cakes, and brownies too. This is our basic bread. I switched from yeasted whole wheat bread to this quick bread. It is soft, delicious and very simple to make. 4 cups WW flour 1 cup white sugar 2 tbs baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 cup vegetable oil 3 cups whole milk Combine the dry ingredients, then add the wet ingredients and mix well. I divide this between two loaf pans and cook for 1 hr at 350F. This is so good with any kind of topping, or as a side. My dad says it tastes like cake. (It has a lot of sugar but not as much as cake.) It's a cheaper variation of the bran muffin recipe that used to be on the box of Kellogg All Bran. Quote
Pawz4me Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 We're all about high carb eating here. This is my current favorite newish recipe -- My Favorite Potato Soup I've made it chopping up potatoes and using frozen cubed hash browns. It's great either way. Quote
dbmamaz Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I'm not really a carb lover, but my french canadian husband had such fond memories of eating Salmon Pie as a kid, i had to make it for him just once . . . except we all loved it! I use this recipe, basically, except I did cut down the potatoes to 4, use a larger can of red salmon (which is the pricier salmon) and instead of milk, I drain the salmon liquid in to the measuring cup first, and then fill in the rest of the cup with milk. Well, 3/4 cup since I use less potatoes. we also eat his version of shepherds pie - ground beef sauteed with an onion, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes. Sometimes he lets me add green beans . . . oddly, he really likes vegetables and fruits and lean meats, but i think he grew up in a carb-heavy home and so its comfort food for him Quote
AlmiraGulch Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Just to be clear, I LOVE high carb eating. Love. Love love love love love. I just think all that lovin' of high carb foods has greatly contributed to the current size of my rear. :D So, for now, I'm limiting my carbs and will live vicariously through all of you. Quote
