kfeusse
...to buy your kids educational things you might buy them anyway?? I mean, like V-Day, Easter, gifts from the "Candy fairy" as an exchange for Halloween candy etc??? I have...and I was curious if I was the only one who did this. I have always given my kids a little token of love on V-Day...but since we have been homeschooling it has been more of a "educational/fun" gift...like last year I got them each a logic game....and this year I am comtemplating a set of Citibloks for the 3 of them together. I am just wondering if I am a weirdo for doing such.
plath
I give educational type gifts for Easter. Both girls are getting some books (first readers for my oldest), beeswax crayons and my older daughter is getting a cvc word game. We're just doing a little box of chocolate (it has 4 chocolates in it) and 1 book for Valentine's Day.
GoVanGogh
Educational Freedom Day is a huge day of celebration at our home and includes the giving of an educational gifts. It generally includes at least one cookbook or comic book. (EFD is known in other parts of the country as "Back to School." As we have no need to purchase school supplies and Kleenex for the classroom, we spend the money on EFD.)

Dmmetler
Absolutely-DD is getting a book on Chinese mythology for the New Year (we're also having a little "Year of the Snake" party/co-op, because DD really HAS made this the "year of the snake" as far as her interests go. We'll be doing some things with the traditions of the holiday, plus some snake-related science activities. And last year, DD entered a local Easter Basket decorating contest. Her basket stood out from the rest in her age group, because it contained books, a stuffed animal related to the books, fruit, and decorated eggs. No candy. Thinking back, she replicated exactly what she's tended to get for Easter every year of her life-I never put candy in her basket because she gets so much from various parties/egg hunts with our co-op, church, and community. UrbanSue
Well, Easter is definitely one of our biggest holidays but we debated Easter baskets for years. Finally, a couple of years ago, I started a tradition of a small amount of candy and then several things I would have bought them anyway. Like, new spring/summer pajamas, outdoor toys like a new box of sidewalk chalk. MadLibs are going in this year. Maybe some Dover coloring books. My mom always gifted us stuff she would have bought us anyway and we still loved it.
