Krista in LA
Thank you all for being so supportive on the running threads. I took you all with me on my run this morning and did the entire 25 minutes. After all of the encouragement the other day when I had a bad run, I had to run the whole time today just so I could come post it on here. So thank you. Jennifer in MI
Congratulations!!!! That's awesome! Are you the one with the Nike Ipod thing? Can you tell me how that works? Do you have to get the Nike shoes too? Or is there a chip you attach to it? It looked like such a neat concept! I'm taking a day off. Tomorrow I'm going to try a 4.5 mile. I think I replied to you that day you asked about it, but maybe I forgot to. You do have to have a pair of Nike + shoes. The sensor fits into a slot in the sole of the shoe, underneath the insole. There is another part that you plug into your ipod and the sensor transmits the data to your ipod. When you start your run, you just start the Nike + on your ipod - you can set it by time, distance, calories, or a free workout and it will tell you when you are done. You can also press the button on your ipod during your run, and it will tell you how long, far, etc that you've ran up to that point. When you are done with your run, you plug it into your computer and it downloads the run to the Nike + website. You can then see a chart of your run, compare it to previous runs, and it tells you the average pace, longest runs, etc. It's really pretty neat. I can see when I get better at running, it will come in really handy at helping me increase my speed. Oh, and it only works with an ipod nano, not with any other models. If you have any more questions about it, let me know.

Nikes do not fit my feet, never have. They are too wide on the back of the foot. NO amount of restringing the laces will work. I found a pouch that attaches to your shoe and works just fine. This link shows the pouch the best, I think. If you notice, the date is from 2006. I went down to the store and bought it for about $10 a few months ago. EDA: I forgot to add that I never use the Nike download option. I read somewhere that it's not all that secure and people can stalk you that way. I decide that it's not worth the chance and just don't use it. Yes I realize I'm losing a lot of the value of the nike+ but I feel secure this way. momofkhm
I take Sundays off! I bike on Saturdays and sleep on Sundays. :D Actually I get up at the same time on Sundays as usual, go to church, lunch and then come home and nap. If I'm fortunate, my family doesn't let me sleep for 3 hours. Two works out well, I can still get to sleep at a reasonable time at night. But 3 hours and I'm up for an extra 2 hours at night. I didn't see a note for yesterday - I wen to the woods with dh, which is our normal routine. I fell off, again! That makes 3 time sin 2 months. Dh may be buying me a new bike - his idea, not mine! Jennifer in MI
Thank you Krista and Cheryl! I'll look into it and maybe ask for it for my birthday. Question - does anyone have a training plan for increasing my mileage? I need to run a 5.8 mile leg of the marathon on October 19. I'm up to 4 miles - but that's definately pushing my level of comfort. I'd say I can do 3 or 3.5 miles comfortably now. I'm going to try 4.25 miles tomorrow. But, beyond that I just don't know - do I run these longer distances now every time I run? Or do I do shorter runs in there too? I don't want to burn out or hurt myself!! I like the Nike shoes, so it didn't really matte to me but I'll keep it in mind in case I want to buy a different brand in the future. I'm also going to check that out about the security. I have mine set to private so others aren't supposed to be able to see my stuff, but maybe it still isn't secure. Hmm.
Krista in LA
Well.... Nike + has training programs on it. I don't think you even have to have an account on it to access it. Even if you do need an account, they are free to set up. Go to this link http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/ You may have to enter your language and country, but it should take you to a screen that says something like want to see Nike + firsthand - click here. That will take you to another page where you click on runs in the bottom left corner and then training. I would think training for a 10k would probably work for you. I will preface this with I have not used any of their training programs and my experience running is limited to getting to week 7 of c25k. Scarlett
I ran or walked or both 6 days last week. Rested today. I did get in the neighbors pool with dh and ds8 and we played hard for 3 hours. I swam some, practiced diving ALOT and just had a general work out. I am going to get up at 5:30 to run, so I will post soon after! Oh, and I lost another 2 pounds. Go figure. But the other 10 pounds WILL NOT come off as easily. I know. Glad everyone had a good day.
