A place to live where houses aren't crowded together but is still walking friendly? Or does walking friendly always equal inner-city type life?

It would also be low COL, and though not inner-city, being very near a city would be very nice.

So, does it exist? Or am I just dreaming?

I'm dreaming of finding a small town with everything I most love (mom & pop grocery store, library, a thriving church of my denomination, a few cutesy shops, maybe an antique store and hardware store), within an easy walk or bike ride from home. Low crime, low COL, four seasons, friendly...sigh.

We have all that here. Idk about your denomination, though. We even have an annual fruit festival. (Not naming the fruit. It's a specific one, though.)

The town my brother lives in in Tennessee is very Mayberry-ish. I love it. They've lived there several years and don't even have a key to their house. It's gorgeous, quaint little village area, friendly people, etc.

Yep, Mt. Airy, North Carolina. They even have Opie's Candy Store, a replica of the jail, tours in replicas of the Sheriff's car, and the diner where you can get a pork chop sandwich! :D

We lived in a small ton in New England that met all your criteria except the low cost of living and one in Georgia that met all 4 of your requirements.

It depends on what you mean by "inner city". Parts of the west Metro area and NE Portland are very walkable, affordable, and not crowded in my opinion, you can't string laundry between apartment buildings as far as I've seen.
