acurtis75 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 So...I had my 35 week visit today and much to my surprise I am 2cm dilated. My doctor said she thinks I'll make it to 37 weeks but she's pretty sure we won't make it to the due date. My shower is 2 weeks from Sunday. This is our second baby but dd is 8 so we don't have a single baby item in our house right now. This could be interesting :). My doctor said I could continue exercising but I think I might be on self-imposed rest for the next 2 1/2 weeks. I told dh it was fine if I go in to labor Sunday night after the shower but before that we are unprepared. UPDATE: unless I go in to labor tonight I will make it to my shower tomorrow! I am quite relieved and we are a bit more prepared than we were two weeks ago. We bought and put together nursery furniture and now that someone bought the car seat/stroller combo on our shower registry so at least we can come home from the hospital without dh going car seat shopping. After tomorrow I will be happy to go in to labor any time. I forgot how uncomfortable being this pregnant is!! Quote
AK_Mom4 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Ds (now 21!) was born at 36 weeks. He got to attend his baby shower when he was about three weeks old. We had a car seat and a crib and a bunch of little footed jammy things my cousin handed down to us, but we definitely weren't "ready". We got lots of cool boy stuff at the shower and everyone got to make googly eyes at the new baby. Quote

You know you're not helping, right? :) I am sure we'll be fine no matter when the baby comes...dh may just be doing some shopping while I'm in the hospital. We don't even have a car seat! Quote
Guest inoubliable Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Well. If you have the babe first, then your guests can get pink or blue instead of green or yellow. Right? ;) Quote
Mnemosyne Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 For what it's worth... I was at 4cm from about 35 weeks... and my son was a week late. So you may have some time to get ready still. :) Quote

gardenmom5 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 1dd was born on her due date. for 2dd, I was *convinced* she'd be early. my dr left town around my due date, and returned nearly a week after my due date. I had one thing, just at my due date, I wanted to make before she was born. . . . . .. . . . . . My dr came back - looked at me and said 'You're still here". yep. I was starting to pull my hair out, he scheduled an induction for 2 1/2 weeks, sent me for tests . . . she was two weeks late. at least it was a really easy labor. Quote
catz Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I know enough people who were dilated for weeks with a 2nd or beyond baby that I'm surprised an OB would make any kind of guess based on it? Quote
Desert Rat Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I went into labor with my oldest at 36 weeks. My shower for work was scheduled for later that week. I worked on a floor with about 100 women who loved babies and showered me with gifts. My dear friend from work brought the car seat and a few outfits (that she washed for me!) to the hospital. Aw! Huck got to come to his own shower that Saturday with my family and friends. :) It all worked out fine. And it makes for a good story. Quote
Mommyof4ks Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 My middle child came to his shower when he was a week old, and I was not even dilated the week before. Quote
Susan C. Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 My first check w/dd a month before due date revealed I was already 5 cm...... she was only one day early (but it was a fast labor!). Quote
Barefoot Explorer Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I was at 4.5 for a month! And that is with lots of contractions on and off throughout the month. I figure that my body just needed a long time to get ready for labor, but it was definitely a grueling month. Emily Quote
