Angie
Yes I am planning for 2013-2014!! I'm a newbie!! I have already changed my mind a few times on curriculum choices. but I made a final draft of what I plan to get for our FIRST year of homeschooling. I have a super small budget so Its a mish mash of everything, Would love to hear from experienced homeschoolers.....how does my line up look? Am I missing anything? And while I'm at it, how much time should I focus on each subject for this grade? This is what I have so far for my son, 2013-2014 4th grade: *CLE Language Arts (grammar, spelling, penmanship) *Math Mammoth *Handwriting without Tears - for Cursive (this will be his 1st time learning cursive) *Geography - I'll be combining The Complete Book of Maps & Geography, and A Child's Intro to the World of Geography. if anyone has done this I would love to hear about it. *Christian Kids Explore: Earth & Space (w/ some vocab) *Art *Basketball *Reading - I'll be using our personal library and the public library for books, and some free online resources like Glencoe Literature and Book Adventure. Is this enough? Not sure how I should approach literature or reading comprehension but I rather use these free resources and put something together myself...if anyone has ideas on how I would do this I would love to hear? TIA Angie ETA: I meant writing and reading comprehension above, not literature =)
Mrs. Lilac
Looks great to me! :) The only thing I see maybe missing is writing- CLE covers grammar, but not writing/composition. You might need to add something on for that.

I do need to add writing, I was curious how I could add it without buying curriculum...if its possible, or an affordable one!
hopeallgoeswell
Thank you! I think we posted at the same time. Once you know the theory behind her writing process and get the feel of it through her four year outline, you can implement it across the curriculum even after you return the book. It has worked well for us because it is straight forward and free. I check it out every summer for a refresher. CLE does have *some writing instruction in it. Handwriting Without Tears is not the prettiest cursive. It worked well for my lefty daughter to learn the connections. Her third grade year, she did Pentime 3 which polished up her cursive nicely. Best wishes!

Awesome, I will definitely go find that book and check it out for sure! thank you so much I was also looking at this website that offers a free reading & writing curriculum http://www.sfreading.com/resources/ghb.html I actually picked HWT because my son is a lefty and he has not been taught any cursive in public school. I just wanted something to get him started, wasn't looking for anything fancy.
boscopup
Looks good! I agree with adding writing. You can do it on your own or use something like WWE (which is inexpensive). We're using Pentime for handwriting, and it is awesome (and only $5.50 at Rainbow Resource ;) ). I haven't used it with a lefty though. My lefty is only 3, and still technically using both hands. :D
Angie
I honestly have not looked at Pentime, maybe I'll take a peak at it. I did a search for something that was helpful for lefties and came across HWT. I'm not familiar with all the abbreviations yet, what is WWE? Angie
ok nevermind, I found it (WWE)
KellyMama
Looks good! My (3) lefties all use A Reason For Handwriting. I think it depends on the student - my little guy did really well. The girls both learned Abeka cursive in our previous school and ARFH is a vast improvement for them! ;)

Angie
I'm skipping history and just doing world geography. I'll probably throw in states n capitals(we'll see) I have a 9th grader as well and she's doing AP Geo through virtual school. So I'm hoping to a combined history for them next year. I do plan to combine bible this year but I don't really have a plan or curriculum.
