Faithr
I don't usually get like this but I want the HGTV Dream Home! Years ago my dh had a business conference down on Kiawah Island and it was so gorgeous and we loved Charleston. The house looks so beautiful. I just tried to sign up for the sweepstakes but for some reason it wouldn't let me. Oh well. I can still dream. http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/index.html
Guest
I remember there was a show about people who had won previously. It turned out to be a disaster for them. The property taxes were higher than they ever imagined they could be. Utilities were so expensive also. I remember they even said something like, "We don't even know what to do about changing the lightbulbs way up there," speaking about a very high ceiling. They couldn't sell the house. They couldn't afford to live in it, either. It was a mess. Although...yeah, it is a nice dream. :)
elegantlion
Thanks for the reminder, dh wanted me to sign up. I wonder why it won't let you? I used to drool over those houses every year. I like this one, I don't love the kitchen though, which is moot because we'd sell if we won.

Now they are giving away cash with the house, so at least you could pay property taxes before you sell. Yup, there is no such thing as a free house. kewb
I share your dream. I attended a meeting on Kiawah years ago. I have always wanted to return. So beautiful.
Seasider
Sorry gals, I already made the winning entry.... but I'll invite y'all over!   Seriously, I would be happy to live in the loft. Or the garage playroom. I don't really need the whole house. ps elegantlion I love your avatar!
Forget-Me-Not
I haven't seen this year's but I really loved the one last year that was in Park City, UT.
Parrothead
Ew, I don't like that one. I usually find something I like about them. Sadly, not that one. And the area is prone to forceful hurricanes. I was there through Hugo. Perhaps the next one will be for me. LOL
Faithr
Oh I love all the colors in the house, the country decor, all the big bright windows. I like that it is more understated than a lot of showcase homes and it doesn't look too huge. I think it is looks very kid friendly. You could sleep six kids plus there's a playroom! The area does get hit by hurricanes; that is a drawback. But then the city of Charleston has been there a long time and has managed to survive. The area has been voted one of the best places to live in the U.S. It is a really beautiful area with mild weather (other than those hurricanes!). We do don't golf but my dh loves the water, boating and fishing. He'd be in 7th heaven. I'll just sit out on the deck and read and drink ice tea. Sigh. jillian
I'm in charleston. Love it. I don't bother entering anymore because of the costs of actually winning.
TXMomof4
I'm certain y'all are all outta luck because I know I entered that one time and am going to win it. Of course, we wont be able to live there. Unfortunately the Army hasn't seen fit to put a post there. And somehow I'm sure the Army salary wont cover taxes, but in my ideal world I'd win. AlmiraGulch
I just entered. I'm smitten. Not at all worried about hurricanes, and I love love love the house. The colors are amazing (I just painted my 2nd bathroom in the gray/green color scheme, although theirs looks much better than mine), the outdoor space, the high ceilings, the master bath.....sigh. I think I'd stay and not sell. The property taxes would be high, but less than what I'm paying now if you add all of my mortgage payments, HOA fees, etc. Since I work from home, I could totally do it. DH might be out of luck, though.
Susan in TN
So far I've avoided going to see the house because I've seen others and they are all so beautiful - of course, I never ever think of any downsides to any of them - taxes, hurricanes, air conditioning, needing to hire a full time housekeeper to maintain it... Now that I've convinced myself of the bad side, I will go drool a bit. I do love my current house. It's not fancy or huge and has it's problems, but really, some of the features the original owner put into the design makes me think they knew a large family would eventually own it. ;)

goldberry
I really liked this year's house as well! I enter every year. I don't play the lottery, so this is kind of a substitute 'what if' dream. We already love where we live though, so of course we'd try to sell it for the cash. Guest
I'm I the only one who does not understand the pantry? :leaving: Aren't pantries generally places to keep the spare sugar, canned tomatoes and Rice-A-Roni? What the heck is there a lamp, artwork and decorative glass bottles in there for?
PachiSusan
I entered. I know we won't win, but I love the dream and it makes me get dressed in case they knock on my door. ;)

Still it would be nice to store rice-a-roni in a pretty place.
