Parrothead
Perhaps Jan is SWB's alter-ego. Comic writing is what she does in her down time.
C_l_e_0..Q_c
yeah, we all know SWB has too much down time.
Dmmetler
There's a series a couple of weeks earlier where the oldest daughter copies a term paper she finds online that shows that she's in PS-but I have to say the follow-up seems VERY afterschooly, at least ;). Parrothead
Is kerfluffle an official homeschooling term? Or is it board specific?
Mrs Mungo
Kerfuffle is not new, not homeschooling or board exclusive. I was surprised when so many people had never heard of it? :)
vonfirmath
Is kerfluffle an official homeschooling term? Or is it board specific? neither. I've seen it used over on other boards I frequent as well.
C_l_e_0..Q_c
It's a real word, not limited to this board, but it did get an overuse on WTMBoards specifically a couple of years ago. One cannot assume that Jan Elliott homeschools from this one strip, but it made me smile, and thus I shared it.
Parrothead
I've heard of it prior to "our" kerfluffle. But I've not heard it outside this board for a decade or more. (I do not frequent other message boards either) I've always thought it more something someone of my grandmother's generation would use. TravelingChris
I just looked it up because I know I started a popular thread a few years ago with kerfuffle in the title and have used the word throughout my life. It is a British word and comes from an originally Scottish word. I don't know if my mother may have used it; my parents were married and lived in England for a number of years and my brother was born there and lived there until he was about 3 when they immigrated to the US. I do know that I do use some British-ism from my mom - like the pronounciation and spelling of aluminium. (Oh and I just looked up and that is the International recognized way of spelling it). myfunnybunch
I think her children are grown. In her strip, the girls go to school, and in real life she was a single working mom so it's unlikely that she homeschooled. I had heard the word "kerfuffle" before its famous appearance on this board. :) Cat
