I have the 2004 edition of TWTM, and in the science portion for 1st grade it suggests using this book as well as "The Kingfisher First Animal Encyclopedia" and "Green Thumbs." My first question is has anyone used these as their science curriculum for first grade? If so, how did you like it? My second question is have any of these books gone out of print? I know I haven't been able to find the human body one so I'm assuming it's out of print so I'm wondering if the newer edition has different books listed for 1st grade?

We are currently using the Animal Encyclopedia. It is a great book full of bright colorful pictures. I used Smithsonian Institution Animals as a supplement. I found that using these two books together has been great. I allow DS6 to pick out which animals that he is interested in. I just picked up the Human Body book this weekend and it looks very similar to the Animal Encyclopedia. I have not been able to get my hands on Green Thumbs.

The animal encyclopedia is neat, but it does not give much information about each animal. For some it doesn't even tell you basic things like where they live and what they eat, which really drives me batty! Prepare to supplement if your child becomes interested in more than just the bare basic facts.
