hollyh Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Caterpillars, milkweed and all that is needed to grow butterflies? I have the butterfly net for them to grow in already and I know I can order a net and get a certificate to mail in for them - but don't see a need to order a new net when I already have one. Thank you. Quote
Alessandra Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 You can order caterpillars directly from Insect Lore. Most of the coupons you see end up going there. I've never heard of getting milkweed from a supplier. Newly hatched butterflies are fine with some fruit - like orange segments - or even a pepper towel dipped in sugar water. The butterflies are best released shortly after emerging. The Insect Lore website has LOADS of info. Quote

The caterpillars come with all the food they need, and we let the butterflies out after maybe a week so they don't need much. Quote
