Crafter's update

Hi, all you crafty people! What's new? Did you finish any projects in January? Have you started anything new? Did anyone find any great pinterest crafts that worked well?

Post, links, pictures, and/or descriptions here.

For January I crocheted some dishcloths for a friend, sewed a hooded bath towel for a baby shower (pastel blue with "Finding Nemo" ribbon), and made one of those 10 year index card memory calendars. I made the box for the calendar from last year's hanging calendar pages. I also crocheted a case for my glasses that looks like an owl. :-)

What about you?

I tried to upload a picture of my glasses case, but I have this message that says "Uploading is not allowed."

I finished up crochet edged burp cloths and blanket for new grandbaby expected soon. Then i added several more rows to an afghan I made my DD for Christmas. It was just not big enough for her and her sons to snuggle under.

I knit myself a great big chunky scarf!

My sewing machine and serger have been at the spa to enjoy some down time after my really busy fall. They are back home all healthy and happy, so I anticipate a very productive February!

Finished felted slippers-3 pairs. They are very warm but the yarn I used was too bulky for the pattern, and so they are too big. Argh. I am working now on an ancient needlepoint canvas that my grandmother, dead for 26 years, started many years before she died. It is *really* boring because all I am doing is the background, all one color, since she finished the flower design in the middle. It's a seat for a needlepoint chair that my Mom still has, I think. I'm going to give it to her when and if I finish it. Zzzzz......

Loading photos on the new board remains problematic for this user..

I finally made some things for me!! Just finished a simple wool knit jacket using Vogue 8775:

I also finished and fringed a strip of wool for a scarf for myself.

Just a few more rows of the toe to go on the second of a pair of socks for my husband. I have yarn out for the next two projects, a quick bib and then more socks. The bib is a free pattern on Ravelry--the Modern Cabled Bib. Must increase knitting speed...

I also made some luggage tags with appliques, a small gift.

We have been making some little felt valentine envelopes like these: http://www.nestofposies-blog.com/2012/01/diy-valentine-envelopes-giveaway/

And filling them with some fabric hearts - can't find the pin... Just two layers of fabric with think batting inside. Cut in a heart and stitched around.

We also made 6 knit skirts kind of like these - http://etcetorize.blogspot.ca/2012/11/winter-maxi-skirt.html Those turned out really cute! We made a couple of different styles and waist bands. Simple and fun!

I made a little canvas picture with stripes and a button-heart (scroll down to see what I copied) http://www.cornerhouseblog.com/2012/02/valentines-mantle.html

I want to make a valentine wreath and banner this weekend.

I'm supposed to make 16 crocheted collars for Irish Dance dresses -- these are ceili team dresses that will be used for 2 teams that will be competing at World's this spring. So far I've got 8 of them made. I just found out about this a couple of weeks ago, so I feel like I'm pretty much on track for completing these by Valentine's Day so they can bling them up and attach them to the new dresses they've ordered. Edited to add link to what they'll look like: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/GailV/choreography-team-collars

I also am supposed to make 4 "School" collars for the Irish Dance dresses that are considered the school dresses. I really dislike making the school collars because they are fiddly -- thinner thread (I think it's a size 10 -- the collars I'm making now use size 3) and acres of bullion stitch. This is what they look like: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/GailV/lace-collar

Other than that, I've been sewing some. I've made a boatload of pants for myself since Christmas. I've been messing around with sewing tops, trying to figure out what that annoying wrinkle under my arm is in many of my tshirt-type tops, both store bought and homemade. I think it's a problem with narrow upper chest.

I've purchased an embarrassing amount of fabric in the past 2 weeks.

The needlepoint will be a treasure when you finish it!

I'm sorry about the slippers. Stuff like that happens to me all the time.

That celtic shawl is beautiful. Gail, I couldn't see your collars as I'm not a member of Ravelry - oh well.

I had some extra warp on my loom from a long scarf project for Christmas. I changed the color and made a 2nd scarf in Jan.

The green is actually even darker than the photo. It turned out very nicely and I had two daughters insisting that I was making it for them :)

I like my LeClerc but don't love it. I'd love to try out some others too. I really like my HD. Of course, it's smaller, but somehow it doesn't seem so clunky. My LeClerc seems very clunky - but sturdy. The nice thing about LeClercs is that they are cheap, so you don't have to break the bank. I bought mine used and when I upgrade I shouldn't have too much trouble selling it. I'm in a group weaving class and they have all sorts of looms to try out (8 shaft), so I can't wait to get started.

I just figured out how to flip on the "share this" option, so they should be available now. I'd thought Ravelry was more publicly viewable, but apparently you have to turn that on for each item individually.

This is a good thing to know since I keep saying that the collar patterns and info are out there for anyone in the world to use -- in other words, they don't have to keep getting in touch with me every time they want a collar. Now maybe it really IS available for everyone.

I somehow developed tennis elbow, though I can't for the life of me figure out what caused it. It's my left elbow and I'm left-handed so it put a major dent in my crafting time.

Even so, I'm almost finished with a blanket for my grandson, who turns one this month. MIL made blankets for all of her grandchildren, but when she got to ds, who is the youngest, she did it differently. She realized that the baby blankets didn't get used for long, so she made it bigger so it would last at least through the preschool years. I decided to do the same. Dss & ddil got plenty of baby blankets when he was born, nearly all of which are now too small. I'm almost finished with the edging.
