I have done them using a Snickerdoodle recipe or a sugar cookie recipe and they both come out yummy. I like this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/raspberry-lemon-thumbprint-cookies-recipe/index.html I don't always use the lemon (or chambord; I usually just thin the jam with a little OJ, if necessary) and I often vary the jams.
