jlcejb6
I am planning our upcoming year for my K-4th group. We are using Galloping the Globe and I have plenty of core and read aloud books but I am needing help coming up with readers for my 2nd and 4th grader. We usually use Sonlight readers but have already gone through the younger selections and am wanting more ideas. My 9 year old is just getting into reading. He was a slow reader but now is loving books. He just finished Call of the Wild and White Fang and loved them. My 2nd grader loves to read. He reads on about the same level as my 9 year old. I know I don't need to go to far over his age group or I'm afraid he wont grasp the content. They both love the boxcar children, Adventures in the Northwoods and Encyclopedia Brown series. So I am looking for more good books that could go with either the culture study we are doing or just reading. I would love any suggestions or links to previous post. I know I probably missed them, but I looked and didn't find what I was looking for!
yperalta
My son is currently reading C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower series of 11 books. Captain Hornblower belongs to the English Fleet and is battling the French during the age of Napoleon. He loves the battle scenes and he has learned a bit about history too.
