AmyB
Can you use tapioca to make anything other than custards? I have never used it. I recently bought sago, which is like tapioca, and the only recipes I can find are for puddings. I love the puddings I can make with sago, but I am just wondering if there is anything else I can do. Gretchen in NJ
Yes, you can. I know you can use it as a thickener. I have heard that somepeople use it to thinken pie filling. I have only used it to make tapioca pudding.
E_Edgerton
I have used it in both fruit pies and cobblers. I think it has a nicer taste than other thickeners. If you check on the back of the box or of course online you will be able to find ratios and substitutes when using tapioca instead of something else. Jean in Newcastle
I use it regularly in crock-pot recipes as a thickener. Usually it is about 1 tbs. to about a cup of liquid, I think (my crock-pot cookbook is "Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Slow-Cooker Recipes" and they have it as a regular ingredient.) I use the "quick-cooking" granulated kind of tapioca.
Jacquelyn in NC
I use it as a thickener for beef stew when I make it in the crockpot. I think it gives the stew a nicer flavor than flour. About 1/4 cup of tapioca is enough for a pot of stew.
JFSinIL
tapioca is evil and should be banned. Ok - I do use it to thicken fruit pies for hubby. I won't go near the stuff. ;)
