Praying for your hubby (and you) Annabel. I hope he is able to heal more completely.

As for salvation, I believe anyone who asks for it gets it and everyone comes to a point sometime in their life where they make a choice - even those who don't have the full knowledge of who the God of the Bible is (only held to the knowledge they have). I don't believe salvation can be lost, but I do believe people can choose to give it up (used to believe and would have been saved, but change their minds, so aren't). All of my reasons are scripture based, but I don't have time to type more than a summary right now.

I don't take notes at the church I'm at now, but used to fill in outlines when supplied with them at other churches.

I almost forgot: I wanted to ask about using Christian vs. secular science texts for college-bound students. I don't know what the future holds, but I don't want to be the cause of lost opportunities for my children. Either way you do it, how do you compensate for the other? IOW, if you use Christian texts in HS, what kinds of colleges or universities will accept them? If most of them do not, what, if anything, do you do to teach the other side of things? If you use secular science texts in HS, what do you do to balance them out? What would you suggest for me, still wrestling with the types of questions I posted above? (It might be easy for someone well-versed & studied in the Bible, apologetics, & theology to counter a ps textbook, but I might need some help. Then again, would adding in other resources make the workload unrealistic?)

Saw this just before getting off the computer...

We used a combo of Apologia and secular texts (Glencoe + Campbells). No college asked what texts we used. (I think this differs in CA for state schools, but my guys didn't apply anywhere there.) They had no problem getting accepted. Oldest, of course, goes to a Christian college, so they shouldn't have problems. Middle applied to secular schools and still had no problem getting accepted. I chose to use both types of science books so my guys got the "outlook" from both perspectives. The vast, vast majority of content is the same since the "what we see in the lab" doesn't change. Only a little differs - dealing with origins.

Thank you all for praying for me. I feel better today. Sore throat is gone, and --no pain! I can't believe all that pain from my shoulders just went away, especially considering my sleep last night was not so good. God is good! Public Speaking class went well. I think the parents were pleased. Most of the kids were enthusiastic and responded well to my jokes. A couple are obviously just not so happy to be asked to do any public speaking. I feel their pain. I'm not a natural public speaker which is why I was fairly nervous about today. I haven't taught a class in quite a few years.

Now I'm going to scroll back and see how everyone else is doing.

Annabel, I'll be praying for you and your Dh. I'll also be praying that God will help you resolve your questions. Read the scriptures, read about the different viewpoints, and pray for God's wisdom. I went through similar questioning when I was a new Christian years ago. I know what I believe about the questions you posted, but I don't know that me telling you will help. You've got to read the scriptures, pray, and decide for yourself. I do think you may be pushing too hard if you are going back to the Greek or Hebrew. God can use the Bible you read in your own language to convict you one way or another. One place that provides at least one side of the answer is http://www.christiananswers.net maybe someone else will chime in with a site that offers another POV.

Hi ladies,

I've been reading Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis for the 52 Weeks 52 Books Challenge this week. In some ways it's a really accessible, easy to understand book and in other ways I find myself rereading paragraphs over and over trying to get a hold of what he's saying. I'm really loving how he boils Christian theology down to it's bare essence though. There have been times where he makes a statement that simply makes so much sense, but he says it in a sentence where I wrestle around and around with it. I hesitated to start this because I usually prefer a light, non-fiction book for my leisure reading, but I'm glad I started it!

May I ask for prayer, please?

During the last hour of work today, I began to feel poorly and prayed for God's strength to finish my scheduled time. I made it - Thank You, Jesus! However, I am not feeling so well - stuffy/runny nose, achy, chills. Shortly, I will be heading to bed and I am so thankful that I have the next two days off. I need to be completely well, as I am scheduled to work all day Thursday, and part of the day Friday and Saturday. (I/We really can't afford for me to miss any work . . .) Also, I have several important things that need done at home during this time. I really need a touch from the Master's Healing Hand, and would so appreciate your prayers.

Thank You!

Glad to see the praises and am keeping others in prayer. My mom found out yesterday that she needs to go on insulin injections for diabetes. She's had issues with Type II diabetes since getting gestational diabetes with me many moons ago. It's kind of a bummer that it's no longer controllable with diet, etc, esp since I also got gestational diabetes with my third.

it's a bummer when the body gets older.

I hope everyone has a good day today - and hope you feel better this morning eaglei! Glad you have the two days off at least.

Dh is teaching a class on C.S. Lewis for our Lenten season classes on Wednesdays. He'll be posting his "notes"--I guess they are Powerpoint slides? on the church's website as he finishes, if they are any help for you. This week is Mere C week, so I'd expect they'd be up by Sunday.

Do you have a link you could post or PM me? That sounds really interesting. I always like to read what other folks have to say about things. It opens up whole swaths of ideas I didn't catch the first time around.

I loved that book, but it has been quite a while since I read it. My daughter read it earlier this year. That and Screwtape are on my required reading list before finishing high school, among some others. She said it was her single favorite Christian book to date and that he an amazing way of wording thoughts that she has had about walking with Christ. She is looking for some type of study to do along with it, so she can go through the book again with a couple of friends. I've googled and not really found what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of anything like that?

Praying for you!!

Just a note: sometimes I come in and read this thread and see prayer requests, I'lll pray, but don't respond. From now on, if you see that I "liked" your posted prayer request, that will mean that I read it and am praying for you. That may seem silly, but when I know people are praying for me, it helps me a lot. Sometimes I don't really have time to respond much, but I always have time to hit like and can walk away praying for you!! lol

Go to the second tab at the top (upcoming stuff). (I think it should be under Christian Ed, but there ya go...lol!)

Very cool, thanks!

Your church looks really interesting! Parish home of George Washington, neat!!

Forgive my ignorance, but what are the boxes in the sanctuary for? Besides an amazingly handy child control tool.

BigMamaBird, in the "olden days," there was no heat in the church. The pews were in "boxes," i.e., had walls and a center floor space, so that people could put a small brazier in the middle and the heat would stay a bit longer in the area. They were actually higher back then (as high as the one that now encloses the space around the stairs going to the pulpit).

We call them Play Pens. Very handy for those with small children.

I agree 100%. This is what our pastor was teaching about in 2 Corinthians this past Sunday.

We have outlines with room for notes and a power point for important notes, points, etc. I go to a non-denominational Evanglical church. It's nice. I feel like it keeps me focused on the sermon more.

We started a series on financial fitness and I found it to be very clear and practical.

Please pray for me. I had a woman get very upset with my son today. She blew up and threw a fit. I need wisdom to respond.

It's always difficult to know how to respond in these situations. I'll be praying for wisdom for you - and that the other lady will realize her behavior wasn't ok too.

It's always nice to see someone who agrees! Most we've come across claim these folks were never saved - that they were pretending or something. I've seen too many of them to know this just isn't true. Ezekiel 19 talks about this happening, esp vs 21+ but in context with the whole chapter. It's not the same as simple backsliding as I see it. It's a willful choice - just as salvation is. We see it via the actions people choose (not single actions, but daily life).

Of course, it's much better to see those who choose to go the other way - from unsaved to saved - and see the actions proceeding from that choice!

I've been on and off this thread but have limited time on the computer lately---- is it o.k. for me to jump in and ask for some prayer? I am limited to the people irl whom I can talk with about this....

dh has been sick for almost 3 mths -getting slowly better but he's been workign 1/2 time (self employed) so he is making very little compared to normal and we are paying a fortune for medical.. he has 2 specialist visits coming up- we'll have to charge those visits and tests.

I am an MFT but not licensed. Now the plan is for me to get hrs/take test and get licesnsed. I might have found a site 1 1/2 hrs away. Dh has a job interview 4 hrs away at a job he would LOVE- they would probably have great insurance and some some good opportunities for our older ds, but if it doesnt' work out then we'll probably plan to move several states away closer to family for many reasons.....our house still has some major work from the house fire but we are way out of money and dh can't cut wood due to respitory (we have to cut and affix trim work/sand and repair stairs).

We are still homeschooling. I am writing reviews, which is fun but time consuming. Dh is working hard to trust God is all of this- as am I. Plus we've had some other family stuff going on...it's just been a lot. I would really like God to show up and work some miracles right now...

Well that is basically my belief b/c I do believe in predestination, not free will. Not looking to argue, and I hope I'll still be welcome here. I'm still a Bible believing conservative Christian, but I happen to believe a little differently. As human beings, we think we have free will, and it appears that way to us, but God is really in control and he has a plan. We just can't see things God's way "His ways are higher than our ways." That is a basic explanation of what I believe.

Of course, it's much better to see those who choose to go the other way - from unsaved to saved - and see the actions proceeding from that choice!

:iagree: I can wholeheartedly agree with that!

I just thought I'd post in case there are others out there who believe like I do and may not feel welcomed on this thread. We each come to our own convictions about these things.

By all means I don't want anyone to think they aren't welcome merely because we disagree on a few things! Usually, my beliefs are in the minority anyway. ;) Nonetheless, it's what I believe.

I'm actually convinced that God didn't spell a few (non-salvation) issues more clearly because He wants us to think about them and ponder them. It keeps our minds on God. He could have made a long, "how to live" manual in the same way man has tried to do many times, but He didn't want to do that. He wants people to be in communion (mentally as well as physically) with Him. This is far easier for us when we have many aspects to ponder.

To ALL: DO NOT let my beliefs dictate who is welcome on this thread! I prefer if we share our beliefs based upon what we think, but definitely not in an argumentive way. Our beliefs about specifics of God are between us and Him. IF anyone needs changing (I'm not convinced anyone on this thread does), God does the changing.

I'm not Calvinist, though there are definitely some things God pre-ordains. That doesn't mean others on this thread can't believe that way and we still accept each other. I happen to think we'll be sharing eternity together, so we might as well start now! ;)

Thank you for praying. I still don't have an answer as to how to deal with all of this, but I am clear that she will no longer allow me to feel that I need to walk on eggshells around her. Her true colors have shown clearly and this will need to be dealt with. She has berated and belittled my children for a while now and we have been able to (almost) ignore it, but no longer.

On a positive note, I slept like a baby last night, feeling fully relaxed knowing she is the one who needs help. In the past I have let her get to me. No longer. It is fully blown up now.

We will see where this takes us.

Praying. May I also suggest that you get some oscillococcilum? They have it at most drugstores now. I take it every time I have virus symptoms.

Never heard of this - will look into it - Thanks for the suggestion!

Praying for you!!

Thank you for the prayers! A few people hit the Like button, so I kind of thought that was what they meant! :-) It DOES help when you know people are praying for you!

I am just on here momentarily because I wanted to update . . . I slept ALL day yesterday - couldn't keep my very sore head up, couldn't eat, etc. Thankfully, no upchucking, etc. I awoke this morning drenched, and my first thought was, "Oh thank You, Jesus! Whatever it was broke!" I really don't know if it was flu or a virus or what. Today I need to get my strength back. I was able to eat a normal breakfast and as soon as I finish this update, I am going to have a large bowl of chicken soup and more tea with honey and lemon. Dh is making dinner this evening :-) I anticipate being able to eat quite fine!

There are so many much more serious requests posted on this thread (which I am remembering) that I almost feel embarrassed to ask for continued prayer for complete healing and renewed strength. However, we really need my income, small as it is (the ends just aren't meeting...) so I really need to be at work tomorrow.

Thank you all for praying for me! And Thank You, Jesus, for touching me!

Just came back for a quick post - I am starting to chill again. NO NO NO NO NO! This is not acceptable! Also, dh says I sound bad, whereas this morning I didn't. :-( Except for the chilling, I feel fine . . .

I must be at work tomorrow!

Thank you again for any and all prayers!

Thank you for praying. It came to a head today. Again her true colors have come through. She told me pretty much she never wishes to see me again. So, there you have it. I had told her I was willing to sit and talk with a 3rd party present. She said she wants nothing to do with that.

I did it- after 2 weeks of researching I joined the professional MFT orgs, ordered the study guide and have the national exam dates posted in my calendar. I've polished off my resume and written a cover letter and have 2 job leads. One of them is an hour and a half away, which would add to the craziness- I have 9 wks- after having graduated 5 yrs ago- to be ready. I HAVE To have a job and submit a plan of action in my state before I can take the exam. Also the job an hour and a half away PAYS AND has a supervisor (which means I wouldn't have to pay for it) AND is at a church (supervision from a Christian, in a church setting ; )!!

Also, dh had a job interview last week with a place he would LOVE, would provide opprotunities for ds 18 and probably (be still my heart)provide health insurance-.

I am almost over the time/age/life-style change panic and would appreciate any prayers/ words of wisdom.

Congrats Chris!! Every pound is soo hard.

Jean - praying for your Dad.

karen- thank-you for keeping us posted about funschooler6. I had no idea.

Could I ask for special prayers for today? I'm having some major issues with my adrenals - it's hard to stand up and do the normal stuff at home even and I have to go to church this morning. (We're a really small church and things are stretched really tight already for others.) Please pray that I can drive safely to get there with the kids and that I have the energy to do what I need to do. I'm thinking I might leave after that but I do need to get there and do my part. I'm not contagious or anything.

Just wanted to update. I did make it to work last week - the last hour a couple days was just hard - tired, energy gone. Feeling improved now and must be ready for work tomorrow. In the meantime, dh and ds are not feeling well - a particular concern with ds. If you would, please keep praying for us. Thank You!
