okay so after researching all weekend I really like the look of Early American History for my 2nd grader through Beautiful feet. So do I need to just get the the Study Guide and then get as many books as I can from the Library? Is it all laid out for me in order? tells me what book when ect?

I saw that I can get some of the used Guides for 5.00 ..... so if thats all I need to get it would be perfect for a nice early intro to US history, i would htink

anyone NOT like the program?

Yes. This is a nice, inexpensive way to do it. You'll probably be able to get most of the books through your library system, and I'll bet that the ones they don't have will be available very cheaply "used".

Yes. It has week-by-week lesson plans, at least my History of Science one does. It is pretty straightforward to follow - each lesson tells you what to read, and what activities to do, from crafts, to writing, etc.

Hope this helps!

I would definitely get as many books as possible from the library. I do that with all literature based curriculums because I love books but I do not have the room to store them or the money to buy them all.

I haven't used the program, but it is on the short list to use with my first grader next year.

I have the older edition of the guide. It is all laid out for each lesson (read this book, these pages, copy this, color that and talk about these questions). Super easy! It is very much from a Christian worldview and talks alot about the character of the different men. Like Eric the Red and his temper vs. Leif Erikson who was known for his good character and self control. I ended up just combining my little one in with my older kids for history so we didn't use the whole thing. The books are well chosen and if you can afford the D'Auleire books they are great for a home library. They are a bit pricey though. Enjoy your BF year!

I love the books but I didn't like the guide (since you asked..). My style is to just read aloud, enjoy, and talk about it. I don't like guides in general though; that's just me. I used the guide to help me read the books in chronological order, but eventually threw that idea out the window and just read whatever book we wanted to. I think the books are great enough to own.

I agree with this post, in that the books are good enough to own. If you could afford to buy the books, you can live without the guide. When the books come, simply line them up in chronological order, label them if you want (or make a teacher's list), and start reading. The books are better than the guide, IMO. On the other hand, for under $14 you can have the guide from Rainbow Resource, so it's good to have on hand. We have all the books except Pilgrim Story, and they are all worth owning. HTH.
