KellyMama
So my 12dd (7th) is still struggling to write a cohesive expository or biographical paper - 6 months into Jump In! I'm not sure it's the fault of the curriculum, in fact we both quite like it. I think I we're still paying the price of her never being taught to outline in school. When we pulled her out (6th) she was terrified of writing. I helped her through a research paper (on a topic of her choosing) and we did some fun writing assignments (I found online/blogs etc) until she felt more confident. I knew she was ready for a real writing curriculum this year. However, this year I'm just not seeing the progress I was hoping to see. It's like she's just struggling to put her thoughts in order - even though we've covered outlining skills etc. She gets defensive when we suggest that her sentences don't really correlate to the outline or when she makes up facts to fill space on the assignment. We're trying to work through having her set goals and work a little each day - she does the least amount of work possible and then scrambles to turn in a quality paper. I'm a writing major, my husband is an English minor, yet neither of us seem to be able to help her. It's frustrating! I'm ready to move her to a program with very specific skills - she has 1 year to get comfortable with this before high school, and I feel we need to schedule her time/curriculum choices very wisely! So what do you think? WWS? IEW SWI-A? Something else? Opinions and input appreciated! (X-posted on logic stage board ;) )
KellyMama
Anyone? :) I did get some input on the Logic board but is there anyone on the k-8 board with thoughts or reviews for this situation?
