So I understand that she is changing them to meet CC standards. So what does that mean for what I have? I bought the light blue set during the last HSBC sale. So my set is partially re-aligned. Does that mean I am missing something from the originals? Does that mean I will have to update my copies as we go along? Am I ok using it straight through as I have it?

I get worried reading these threads that I will mess something up.

I recently contacted the author about this issue. You can use what you have for certain, but she encouraged me to upgrade to the revised editions. She said several chapters had been redone and were improved. We are using first and third grade this year and they were already printed, she told me which chapters (only a couple) to re print and said the rest were fine. If you contact her you can get the newest editions for free. Grades 1-4 are redone as of now.

I understand some people have no interest in the new core standards, and I think what you have is fine, but of you want to upgrade, you can for free.

That's right. Things are getting shifted between grade levels, but not deleted. In the upper levels, a couple of topics from MM5 are shifting to MM6, and MM6 to MM7, which she will be creating, and it will explicitly be Pre-Algebra. Currently MM6 is kind of a hybrid - it has a lot of pre-algebra topics, but isn't quite enough on its own, so people sometimes aren't sure whether to do it as PreA with something added, or skip it and do another PreA. This should clarify that - you will be able to complete MM6 and then choose to continue with PreA with MM, or shift to another program. Theoretically.

Ok, but am I ok if I don't upgrade for some reason? Or will I be missing something?

You're ok unless you need to meet CCS - for standardized testing (in the future) or meeting charter school requirements or something.

And even if you have to standardized test, I strongly doubt using the old version of MM would cause your child to fail. It's only a small number of topics that are affected.

You won't be missing anything. I recently emailed her to ask a similar question since the group buy has the new versions for 1-4 and the old versions of 5-6. She said there was 1 topic that would be introduced in mm4 and then if you didn't upgrade to the new version of 5&6 you would see the topic in depth again but it would otherwise be a fairly smooth transition. No topics would be missed. She also said the new versions would be free upgrades if you purchase the old ones.
