x-post: WWW & IEW sufficient preparation for Writing With Skill?

Recommended Posts

this a x-post from the Logic board -- I think I should have posted it here originally.

We are doing Winning with Writing and adding IEW: if I want to try WWS in fifth grade, does this seem sufficient (we do narrations, and some dictations with our spelling) or ought we incorporate WWE? any thoughts?

thanks! I'm planning out the next year & our trajectory ...

I don't know anything about WWW but I think IEW alone is sufficient prep for WWS. I have WWS (was going to start oldest DS on it this year) but instead I decided to keep him together with DD for writing instruction, so I started IEW with both of them. After I got it, after reading through all of WWS and going through the whole TWSS, I was very happy with it as a perfect bridge from WWE to WWS. The farther I get into IEW, the happier and more satisfied I am with it. My kids did/do WWE but if you're getting those skills from spelling, it's unnecessary.

This isn't much help, but I am planning to have my 6th grader do WWS next year, and he is doing IEW this year (along with BJU English, which does have some writing incorporated). I haven't held WWS in my hands yet (waiting to purchase at our convention in May) but from the samples I've seen, I think it is a good program to use after IEW.

thank you both! And the reply I got on the Logic board also suggested IEW would be sufficient.

Kristina, it is so good to hear that you like IEW more & more as you use it -- we're just starting out, and as I try to get us organized it is encouraging to hear you are finding it worthwhile.
