Esse Quam Videri
I bought this as part of our study on Ancient Rome, but after skimming through I'm now wondering if it's appropriate for DD8. She's mature for her age in some ways (responsibility, emotional management, self awareness) but also very innocent. If you've read this, are there any passages that could be considered inappropriate for a 2nd/3rd grader?
TGHEALTHYMOM
I read this aloud last year to most of our children. I enjoyed it immensely! I don't know what you would consider inappropriate, but as far as sexual content I do not remember anything except when they went to the Pagan temple. I don't recall anything explicit, but since I knew what happened I did share a little more with my older children. There is also some violence in the Gladiator realm but not much. hollyhock
This may not be very helpful, but I am saving it until my boys are older. I was going to have my 5th grader read it this year and I think it's too mature, even though I really loved it. I personally think it's better for early high school or late junior high, but I am very conservative in what I let my kids read, so take that into consideration. The scene in Diana's temple might perhaps be frightening for youngers.
MerryAtHope
The scene in Diana's temple might perhaps be frightening for youngers. This is what I was thinking as well. I read this one aloud to my kids...either in 6th & 8th or 7th & 9th, I forget which year now! Wonderful book, we all really enjoyed it. I also think the spiritual themes would be kind of lost on most 8 year-olds. Better to have them be older and have a little more life experience to appreciate it more I think. Definitely worth reading though! Merry :-)
momofabcd
It has been a few years since I've read it and loved it. However, Heart of Dakota has it scheduled in the extension package of CTC for more mature 6th and 7th graders. I agree with a pp, definitely worth reading. Ewe Mama
I would wait so they get more out of it, as well.
