melissad2
He's 9m and is teething. He has two teeth on the bottom and the top 4 are coming through. He has bit me several times today...I tried stopping the nursing session, I yelped once and he cried, I tried telling him "NO" and nothing is working. Any other suggestion because I certainly don't want to wean him yet.
Heatherwith4
You have my sympathy. DD was a biter. Someone on here suggested pulling the baby further into the breast when they bite. You could say no firmly at the same time. This helped me more than anything. Also, keep a close eye on the baby when he's nursing. If he's getting distracted, end the nursing session. It seemed like DD bit more often when she was bored.
Mrs Mungo
I agree with Heather. Pull him in so that you cut off the air supply to his nose. This will cause him to open his mouth. Babies really do not like this and it will usually be enough to make them stop.
lea_lpz
Stop the feeding immediately and make the baby wait until the next feeding (or at least an hour).
Mabeline
I would firmly say " no bite" then end the nursing session. If it was safe I would even set him down on the floor to further make it clear mama was not happy.
theYoungerMrsWarde
You can get a plastic nursing shield that might help. I got mine from the lactation consultant at the hospital. (I could not nurse at all without it.) It won't stop the biting, but it can help with the pain until the biting is trained out.
mommymilkies
I'm very AP, but I don't put up with biting. I say no, take her off, and walk away for a bit. If you are very expressive or strong about it, they usually think it's funny or scary and it won't help. Is baby teething? Maybe let him gnaw on something before nursing? redsquirrel
Oh I am sorry. I had two biters so I know your pain. A very helpful mom gave me this solution: Pull them in to make baby open his mouth. I say firmly No Bite! and I would put the little terrier on the floor next to me. I would give a good firm "mommy glare" and then turn my body away for a count of five. Then I would turn back to the babe with a big smile on my face and scoop him up and kiss etc. When we resumed nursing I started with a firm No Bite and a serious face. Then we would nurse. I did that maybe twice and after that no biting
jhschool
Push down firmly on lower gum and say, "No bite!" It takes a couple of times. I also like the other posters' idea of ending the session or pulling the baby close or setting baby on the ground. Do whatever works for you--I hope it stops soon! It's no fun! melissad2
We had a bite free day yesterday! YAY! I almost had a panic attack before I nursed him for fear of being bit again. I think ending the nursing session and the time I scared him with my yelp (totally a knee jerk reaction) fixed the problem.
violamama
Both my kids did this. I'm sorry. Some of the stuff you are doing seemed to work for us, too, and I don't have much wisdom beyond that to offer. It really hurt! My second kid did get tweaked on the nose once when he was closer to 1 yo because he would wait until the session was almost over anyway, little punk. I think it was right about then that I realized my kids are often about a step ahead of me.

Totally did not work for me! ;)
