So my husband is turning 30 in March and I want to make it special. My budget is about $50-$100 and he's not much for a sentimental item, although he wouldn't mind doing something together. My thoughts are either a fancy dinner out, throwing a surprise party (but it couldn't be at our apartment because it's too small) or a gift.

He likes gourmet food, cycling, camping, tech/arduino. Any ideas would be helpful.

Does he eat meat? Have you been to Fogo De Chao or Texas De Brazil? It is amazing! Pro game tickets?

There is one of those restaurants close to us and that would be a lot of fun. I've also thought of perhaps giving him a one-month's pass to a local rock climbing gym, but I just don't know if he'd have the time to fully utilize it. I could get him a one day pass and he could see if he could get a friend to go with him. I think he would enjoy that with a friend rather than me because his friend would have greater endurance and such.

We used to have a company that offered gourmet cooking classes but it seems that they closed down a few months ago. He does value experiences over things.

Just learned the word arduino. Thought you'd like to know.

No great birthday ideas though. Sorry!

Got DH an Arduino UNO for Christmas. It's all he's done since!! And he'd an engineer for a living. Branch out!!! ;)

For 25 I had a surprise party, had his brother and bil take him golfing (the only time they have ever been golfing together, ever ;) ) and invited his family and the neighbors over for a barbecue.

For his 30th birthday, I planned ahead to where we would need to stop on our date and left small inexpensive things there. In the car I had his birthday card on 'his seat. At the gas station (we live in a SMALL town) I left a gift bag that had a bag of his favorite candy in it. At the restaurant I had a bag with the kids' gift, a "Dad" tshirt. At the bookstore I had a gift bag that had a local hand made mug in it. That was fun and people were really into helping me.

For his 35 birthday, we took the kids to the zoo and ate out at a "sit down" restaurant. But my real gift was that I had written 35 nice things on slips of paper and gave them to him at random times through out the day. The first few he was like "awe, that's nice" but by like 15 he was starting to catch on, and thought it was kind of fun to see when I would give him the next one.

Now I've got to think of somethin for 40!

Family camping trip?

Dinner for just the two of you at a gourmet restaurant where you hire the sitter and make the reservations?

Family trip overnight for him to compete in a cycling race (if he likes to compete and would enjoy seeing his family cheer him on)?
