We called last night to set up DISH in our home and the sales person mentioned something about satilite internet too.. This was the first time I had even known that they offered that.

So I am wondering how many people have tried their internet service this way and what they thought? I am going to price compare today to see if that is going to be cheaper than our other service, but if it's not good, than cheper isn't better.

thanks.

The only people I knew to have satellite internet, didn't have it for long. Considering that you can lose reception in storms or if a branch falls on your dish the wrong way, you can also lose internet. My friends and my grandfather had issues with it being reliable. YMMV.

We have never had satellite internet, but have friends/family that do. You want to read the fine print as they have pretty strict rules about usage limits per month and will "shut you off" for the rest of the month if you go over the time/data limits.

seriously? that is good to know.

thanks.

I have a number of friends and a former boss who went with satellite internet because they no other alternative for faster-than-dialup. It's iffy though, and they always tell me to call if they don't reply to a time-sensative email.

Some time back we thought that we were going that way. I saw a cable technician working down the road, and I stopped and asked if they were bringing in cable. And they were! I love cable internet. It is very reliable (out maybe 1-2 times a year), and FAST.

I really wish they would redo the cable by my house. At one time charter ran out here, cable lines still up and box on our phone pole. Wish I could get it just for Internet. We have share everything through Verizon. We pay 200 for 6gb to share with 2 smart phones and a USB modem for our desktop. I'm sure charter Internet would be cheaper for us
