VeritasMama Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I have given up trying to find unbiased news, I simply read my news from a variety of biased sources and try to glean the facts out of the bias and opinion. These include: Drudge Report NYP NYT WSJ The Guardian The Daily Beast Lifesitenews I used to listen to NPR everday, but I too had to stop after one too many stories about the Catholic church where actual Catholic doctrines and/or positions were explained poorly or flat out misrepresented. I don't think that Catholic positions on topics such as embryonic stem cells are obtuse or hard to find, they are pretty clearly defined and available to the public. The only logical conclusion I could draw was that they simply weren't interested in presenting the Catholic church in an accurate light, whether this is because they are blinded by bias or intentionally pursuing an agenda I can't say. Element Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Guilty pleasure with a totally slanted view? Salon (though Salon is even too much for me half the time.) Actual news? NPR ETA: I don't watch TV or really even listen to the radio. All of my news comes from online sources. Quote
Pawz4me Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 NPR (only when I'm in the car) Websites -- Reuters, NBC News, BBC, Al Jazeera, Washington Post, NYT I do watch cable news (MSNBC and CNN) but more as background noise/infotainment than news. Quote
justasque Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 BBC online. There's an American news tab as well as world, UK, etc. I also listen to BBC Radio 4, but I don't know if that is rebroadcast overseas. Laura ...Laura, I really liked listening to Radio 4 when I was in Britain. I wish BBC would broadcast it worldwide. Much of BBC, including some Radio 4 shows, is available through podcasts. Farming Today (very perky morning show - well worth listening to if you like farming or food) Women's Hour BBC World Update Best of Today Food Programme Documentary of the Week From Our Own Correspondent Gardener's Question Time Desert Island Discs and, of course, The Archers. :-) The CBC also has a ton of podcasts, including my favorite, the brief "French Word of the Week". SunnyDays Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 So, I was reading my son's online student newspaper tonight... and I realized that I will probably learn more from that than from most of the television news broadcasts available to me. :crying: Sad but true. (By the way, it's www.newsademic.com if anyone is interested in a subscription... for your kids or yourself, LOL... I got the information from another thread here recently!!) Quote
Roadrunner Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 The Economist The only publication I respect and listen to their opinion. I am always appaled how little journalists know about the regions and issues they are spewing opinions about. The standards have been terrible ever since most publications no longer have journalists based abroad. I find The Economist to be a pleasant exception. General news mostly NPR in the car. Quote
