SunnyDays
We're heading into Ancients for history in the fall, and I love the look of IEW's Ancient History writing program. We haven't done SWI, or any other components thus far. If I got the parent overview DVD and viewed it, would that be enough for us to launch right into Ancient History writing, or do you really need either TWSS or an SWI/SICC package first?? AngieW in Texas
I think one of Lori Verstegen's theme-based programs would work just fine. She is really good at writing out TMs that hold your hand through the whole process.
MyLittleWonders
We did with All Things Fun and Fascinating and really enjoyed it. I debated getting the Ancients book for this year but I'm on a no-homeschool-spend kick right now and already have more than enough writing materials. ;) But yes, we were successful with just a theme and nothing else. SunnyDays
Great, thanks for the feedback. I think I'll take a closer look at it! :)
mom31257
I haven't seen the dvd, but I'm sure it would help. If you get really stuck, you can always come here for help! There's also, Blended Structure and Style, which is the book the whole program is based on. It would be a cheaper option.
Jim
You could do it without the disks but I would check with friends to see if anyone has them. There is no need to watch all of them before starting the program but watching them will make it easier for you to see where the program is going and allow you to offer deeper explanations. Beg, borrow, or steal (just return it when you're done). Jim
Crimson Wife
There's also, Blended Structure and Style, which is the book the whole program is based on. It would be a cheaper option. I got this book because I wanted to get a feel for IEW without having to invest a lot of time & money on the TWSS videos. It isn't the most user-friendly (I can definitely understand why IEW developed the videos), but I'm hoping it will be enough to serve as a reference guide to the Ancient History theme book next year. It remains TBD how it'll actually work in practice, but I'm cautiously optimistic. :)
