grantmeawish
My dd is turning 6 and recently received a doll for Christmas, so I know she would love to go the store for her birthday. My mom is helping me with costs so I don't have to be super frugal, but still budget conscious nonetheless. I was thinking of treating her and 2 friends to lunch and dessert at the cafe and then .... That is my question. What next? I see they offer a doll hair salon which I think would be nice as an extra birthday surprise for my dd, BUT would it be ok to just get my dd's doll hair done or should I consider the other girls dolls too (that would be an extra$40, :bored: .) Also, I know one girl doesn't have an American girl doll, but she has a knock off one. Can she bring her or do they strictly allow American girl only? (I would hope not) I also noticed they have craft days but for 8 and up. Are they strict about that? Any experiences or ideas? Thanks! tearose
I'd try to do something all the girls could participate in, not just your DD. If you can't afford to have all the girls do the hair salon, I'd find something else to do. Even if she's the birthday girl, it's expecting a lot of her friends (especially at 5 or 6 years old) to just watch while her doll gets special treatment . Faithr
For my dd's 11th birthday I took her and a friend out to lunch at the cafe. It was wonderful. If you don't have a doll, they'll let you borrow one. We got the birthday package which had all sorts of fun things. After the lunch we just had fun wandering through the store and I let each girl pick out some little thing to take home. Both girls were pleased as punch. Honestly, just having lunch there and all the special attention will be enough. I would save the hair salon for another day.
JFSinIL
Any girl can bring their doll - Am. girl or not - to the cafe. If there is no doll (like, say, a mom and her dd's doing Chicago for the day happen to be able to get into the cafe)....they have dolls available to "borrow" for the meal!!! Ask me how I know this ;-)) I'd not plan on anything else besides looking at EVERYTHING in the store. Maybe YOUR dd could pick out an item for her doll - but do not make the other kids wait around while her doll goes to the salon, etc. Save that for a trip just the two of you. Or - could you afford to get each kid ONE small book or hair doohickey for their doll as the "goody"?
