mommymilkies
Just a heads up. It seems they really made a mess of things this year. You can not file your taxes until January 30th and there is a very long expected delay. At least 3 weeks. So if you are like me and really, really need that money, you have my sympathy. A friend who works for an ag tax service says it's worse for farmers, too. That may be state and not just federal, though. :(

mommymilkies
Our washer door exploded on Christmas Eve and we've been washing by hand since. I need it, too! I wish they would get their acts together!
Amira
Our washer door exploded on Christmas Eve and we've been washing by hand since. I need it, too! I wish they would get their acts together! Yeah, you need it. Washing clothes by hand is no fun at all. Ever. I'm sorry you still have to wait.
Lanny
I use the TaxAct service. I seem to recall, several days ago, on Facebook, they said that one can efile with them, now, and as soon as the I.R.S. permits, they will submit the return to the I.R.S., for processing. Your refund will come a LOT faster, if you efile. If you live in a state like Texas that does not have a state income tax, you can efile a Federal return, free with TaxAct. Crimson Wife
Turbo Tax told me that some of the forms we need won't be available until Feb. 15th :cursing:
mommymilkies
That sucks. :( farmers he have to wait until March! I have mine all filled out on Turbo Tax but I can't submit my state until the 25th and federal until 30th. It wouldn't even let me try. Lady Marmalade
Yes, I already did my taxes online with TaxAct. They're done on my end, and submitted to TaxAct, and they will submit them as soon as the agencies will take them for both federal and state. We sure could use the $$ we have coming, but am anticipating we could be waiting a while. Hopefully e-filing AND getting the refund electronically will speed things up. Shelsi
yeah it totally stinks. This year I got our withholdings all wrong. Usually I set them for us to break even so tax time doesn't really "matter" for us in that we only get maybe $100 back. But things were different this year & I should have changed our witholdings partway through the year but never did and now we'll be getting back $2k. I'm so irritated with myself because I'm definitely of the "not going to give Uncle Sam an interest free loan" mind-set and then this year not only did I do that but he's going to hold on to it extra long! twoxcell
I was so bummed about this my dh got his W2 earlier than ever this year and I went through the whole process to file last weekend. Of course when I got to the end I found out no one can efile until January 30th and one of the forms I needed doesn't exist yet so I can't even finish. :glare:

Parrothead
Turbo tax took mine and said it went through, but we have to wait until the 30th for the govt to start at their end.
JFSinIL
Turbo Tax told me that some of the forms we need won't be available until Feb. 15th :cursing: DS's school wants the FAFSA filed by Feb. 15....folks who do that get a $500 award for early filing. Of course we will do this - but obviously will have to go back and seriously change the FAFSA later. At least this is allowed.

Miss Peregrine
After years of e-filing I have to file by mail this year because of the adoption credit. Wonder how long that will take?
TravelingChris
My return is going to take forever to do since I figured out we are probably able to deduct medical costs for the first time since we had so many. But one of the biggest is all the transportation costs which means I have to figure out how many times we went to each doctor, dentist, pharmacy, etc. and do mileage plus find receipts for the airplane trips we took to the Mayo Clinic plus hotel costs, car rental, etc. Unfortunately, even though the medical threshhold is going up this year, depending on what happens with my middle kid, we may do it again this year. Kind of remarkable for being in the military with a 1000 cap on actual payments to doctors and for medicines. But we paid insurance for our son, then the two trips to the Mayo Clinic plus three sets of very expensive glasses or lenses, and wisdom teeth removals which our plan paid about half and I think we may actually be able to deduct medical stuff for the first time ever. TravelingChris
Yes, I have no idea how poor people do this. I guess they better not have as many health problems as we have. We have great health insurance for which we pay nothing however, not all people take it and our dental is so/so and vision and hearing coverage is actually poor. So for dh, his glasses are covered but for the two of us who have glasses, it is over 2000 per year (with glasses and sunglasses for both and dd has trifocals and I have bifocals). I just get what's cheap at Walmart because we don't have optical insurance. Less than $200 and then I only go every few years after I get my contact prescription. Our dental insurance is terrible, too. Over $90 for a teeth cleaning!
