pots and pans....how many do you have?

I received a small sauce pot, a medium sized steamer, and a medium pot that were very expensive for a wedding gift. I could not afford to add to this set, but as my family grew I added inexpensive pots from Ikea. I now have 1 very large pot, two slightly smaller pots with pasta baskets and small steamers, another even smaller pot, and 2 very small sauce pots.

I also have 3 cast iron skillets. An 8", a 10", and a 12". These are just the lodge brand, so nothing special.

I do have 2 of the size pots that I use nearly every meal. I started out with 1 of that size and then added another because I needed it when the family grew. I would not have done so if they were not so cheap.

I'll probably call them the wrong thing and I don't know their size, but I have:

large saucepan

medium saucepan

small butter warmer (it was so cute! and I do actually use it!)

large pot (spaghetti?)

dutch oven (lodge, 5 qt?)

2 nonstick fry pans (1 lg, 1 sm)

1 stainless saute pan

One of each: Large, medium, small saucepan.

Two large pots. I don't know the size but big enough to cook spaghetti or a big pot of chili. I LOVE having two of this size!

I have a steamer insert for one of the large pans.

I also have one small egg pan (small frying pan), one large frying pan, a wok, and an electric skillet.

1-, 2- and 3-quart saucepans; 4.5-quart Dutch oven; 8-qt stockpot; 20-qt stockpot (for canning, mostly); 7- and 10-inch skillets; 12-inch cast-iron skillet.

I used to have a second 2-qt pot but dh burned it on a camping trip. It wasn't a nice one and I've learned to live without it. I use almost all of them every day and sometimes wish I had duplicates but I have a small kitchen and a limited selection helps me keep on top of the dishes.

If we have a size we need multiples of - we get multiples.

I know we have two heavy stock pots, several saucpans in various sizes, and more frying pans than I care to store - mostly in small or large - dh keeps buying new ones, but wont' thin them out. (he's very possessive of his frying pans)

we have an old electric frying pan that is so thick and heavy we can't find anything as thick to be able to replace it with. It gets used alot.

I would like a dutch oven. (my eyes bulged when I looked at the le Creuset set at costco - COSTCO was making my eyes bulge. hate to think about what they would do at sur la table.)

eta: we have three double boiler inserts.

I think the only thing I have multiples of are 13x9 inch pans and 9-inch loaf pans. All other things are singles that I make do with. If I had a frequent need for two of something the same size then I'd get it.

I do have quite a collection of cast iron cookware that contains some multiples. Most of it was handed down from my grandmother. But I don't use it anymore because DH carries the gene for iron overload (hemochromatosis) so to minimize the iron in his food I've stopped using the cast iron cookware.

I have a large and small stainless steel pan, the large one also having steamer baskets in case I need those.

Non-stick, I have a small, medium and two large (I'm sometimes making a stew and a soup at the same time.

I have a non-stick wok and four (yes four) frying pans/omelette pans. Husband has this thing about using the right size of pan for a particular omelette.

Oh, and I have a stove-top griddle that I use for sausages, etc.

I think that's it.

I decluttered and got rid of a lot of my pots and pans. What I kept are:

1 large pot for boiling pasta

1 med. pot

1 small pot

1 large frying pan

1 frying pan perfect for omeletes

a griddle for pancakes

a combo rice cooker/steamer

a George Forman grill that we use several times a week

that is it except for my dd's baking stuff, which includes cookie sheets, various cake pans (both round and rectangular) including ones for sheet cakes, muffin pans. These have all been gifts to dd from extended family as dd makes all the cakes, cupcakes, etc for all extended family parties. Today, she made a tiny cake for her new cousin's first birthday (the mother, my neice bought the cake pan for dd). These supplies are all stored in our combo large laundry/pantry room until needed.

p.s. I do need a new casserole baking dish as my old was was very chipped and scratched up so tossed it.

1 very large cast iron skillet

1 med/large cast iron skillet

1 small sauce pan

1 small/medium soup pot

2 larger pots for stock, pasta etc

Also:

1 huge water bath canner pot

1 huge pressure canner

We so have 4 cookie sheets (2 large and 2 small), 3 ceramic casserole, 4 glass pie pans and a slew of Pyrex baking dishes in various sizes (the kinds that double as leftover containers with the snap on plastic kids) and 2 loaf bread pans.

Saucepans -- 1 each, small, medium & large

Saute' pans -- 1 medium, 1 large

steamer & double boiler inserts -- same size as my medium saucepan

Stockpots -- 2 small, (I bought a second one to make caramels and needed a flat bottom), 1 large (I create a steamer with this one using my stainless steel drainer to steam eggs, but I don't remember why I bought it)

Skillets -- 1 8" and 1 12" -- really would like a 14", 12" and 8" though.

Those are all of my pots...if we want to get into electric cookware, pyrex, corning, baking pans and the like...this list would grow quite a bit more. I've determined that anything I haven't used by this Christmas is going away. I just don't think I need everything that I have...but until I've lived with it for at least two years I don't want to throw anything out!

One of each

10"and 8" skillets

1 pint pot

3 quart pot

steamer insert (like a pot with holes on the bottom) for 2 of my pots

3.5 quart Dutch oven

6 quart stockpot

16 quart stockpot

Two of each

12" skillets (cast iron & anodized aluminum)

2 quart pots

1 quart pots

This represents the bare minimum I can work with. I used to have a lot more cookware, but when we moved here, I gave away the pieces I rarely used or hated. Everything gets used every week, except for the cast iron skillet (which has been relegated to the basement) and the 16 quart stockpot (which I use for boiling bones to make broth). I've had 4 of the pots for 35 years, which totally amazes me.

Everything except the 1-pint pot has a lid that either came with it or is borrowed from another piece. I have one 12" lid that I bought on Amazon to use with the cast iron skillet, and it is in the basement, too.

I have a medium and large skillet.

I have creuset cookware, and I don't remember all the sizes, but off the top of my head, I have a 2 qt, 3 1/2 qt and 5 1/2 qt round, a 2 qt saucepan, and 2 ovals in the 5-6 qt size. I also have a 2-3 qt brasier, and a honkin' 9 or 11 qt oval. I LOVE that one, for when I do batch cooking. And I think I have a couple of other pieces, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

I also have a 5 qt brasier, that is lime green and is currently being used as a fruit bowl. I'm thinking I need to thin out the cookware a bit, but every I do use them all, just not all at the same time.

I have a stockpot, large skillet, a medium sauce pan, crockpot, and a rice cooker. I have a very tiny kitchen and my oven only has one large burner. I cook everyday and have found a way to make it work with lots of in between washing and planning meals that I can cook together without too much trouble.

Pots, in order of size

Canner

stock pot

Pressure cooker

Dutch oven

3 medium (all different, but close)

I small

I have a large, rectangular electric skillet, but I'll spare you the rundown of my pans, griddle, and small appliances. I really do use ALL of it. I can be minimalist everywhere but the kitchen.

Two huge stock pots, each for different things. One is for boiling macaroni, the other is for making sauce. One omelet pan that i love, one large saucepan, one medium saucepan, one small saucepan, a wok, one pancake two burner sized pan, and two cast iron skillets.

That's it. I've owned them for 18 years.

They aren't broken yet.

Wait you want baking ware, too? Well, that's where the crazy comes in.

Gosh, there is more... not even going to try listing baking stuff.

And I still have a wish list. Yikes!

I was super lucky to have some amazing help at Christmas-time in replacing some old and falling apart cookware. :) Now I have TWO crockpots!! And a cast iron pan set!! I cannot stress how amazing this is. So.

4.5 qt slow cooker

8 qt slow cooker

3 qt Lodge dutch oven with 10 1/4 skillet that also works as a lid

3 qt (?) enameled cast iron dutch oven (?) thing that I picked up at a TJ Maxx years ago

small sauce pan with lid

large pot with steamer insert and lid

I'm hoping to get down to IKEA next month to replace the sauce pan and pot. They're both from my aging and falling apart collection.

For baking, I have:

Pampered Chef pizza stone

Pampered Chef stoneware casserole dish

One baking sheet

Ikea pots are great! I have a mini wok that I use a lot -- it is heavy enough that nothing burns in it, and it has stood up to heavy use. Ikea knives are also wonderful. I always read that you should get top quality knives ($$$) -- I have some, but I always reach for the Ikea knives -- they are very comfortable to use and the blades stay sharp. (I use a sharpening steel when needed.) Ikea's white ceramic baking dishes are nice to have too.

I've heard so many raving reviews on the IKEA pots. I can't wait to get them! The set I have now (what's left of it) is a stainless steel with copper bottom from Linens N' Things. As far as I know, there are no stores left and they liquidated themselves down into a web presence. So much for that lifetime warranty. LOL. I think I'm going to go with the 365+ line at IKEA. I've seen/read/heard nothing but good out of that line.

I haven't used any IKEA knives. I've just got a bunch of these: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=pure+komachi

I have no idea if they are a good brand or not, but I've not had any issues with them. Blades stay sharp and I keep them stored on IKEA magnetic knife strips on the wall.

I'll keep that in mind about the baking dishes. I was thinking of adding another to my small collection. Something smaller than the big Pampered Chef casserole dish.
