mommy123
I'm looking for a historical fiction book for my 7-year-old son who is an advanced reader, but is VERY sensitive. Time period doesn't really matter as long as it's not too girly and not too heavy. We're using HOD Drawn into the Heart of Reading.
Farrar
The Great Brain? Definitely very light, but there is some drama and adventures. Or Homer Price, maybe. It's one of those books that has gotten old enough to be historical fiction, I think. My boys liked The Saturdays as well, so that's the 1940's, but it has four main characters and three of them are girls, so that wouldn't do it for some boys. Of course, Farmer Boy is also very gentle except for that opening with the boys and the schoolteacher.
tjlcc
The Great Brain? Definitely very light, but there is some drama and adventures. Didn't The Great Brain have the boy who threatened suicide? Or am I thinking of another title? How about looking into the Step Into Reading, DK, or I Can Read books? The higher levels would be advanced reading and there are various historical figures such as the Wright brothers, Harriet Tubman, etc.
Julie Smith
Would books from the "Who Was" series work for him?
