Sometimes things just work out right, don't they?

Now if Greta Lea comes on here and reads this she will probably laugh at me. I think she tried to explain this to me before and I was not listening.

Regardless, I am happy today. Even if I feel a bit dense in the head at the same time.

We have been members of the YMCA for about a year. We have a very hard time getting our money's worth from the Y because the times of day that the kids' fitness center is open are the worst times of day for our family to go. So it has been a struggle to make use of the facilities for which we paid $59 a month. I wanted to put the kids in Swim and Gym which meets twice per week for a total of six hours. I wanted to pay the YMCA another $65 per month for this program so that I could use the time for my own personal workout. This would have us paying the YMCA a total of $124 per month for access to all facilities plus six hours of actual instruction time for the kids. That's a lot of money coming from a family that just had to turn off the phone and cable!!So, dh said no. We could do one or the other, but not both.

I pouted. I stormed. I complained. But in the end I canceled our membership in favor of letting the kids have the six hours per week of actual instruction. I knew it was the right thing to do, I know it was more important that they have this. But I was mad because I knew that I would have to stay on the premises for all six hours each week and yet I had turned in my membership card.

Imagine how silly I felt yesterday when we attended the open house for the program and I was told that the moms are allowed, no, make that encouragaed, to use all of the facilities while their kids are in classes. I raised my hand and explained that I was no longer a member and the director patiently explained to me that no, that does not matter, because part of the Swim and Gym fee is access to the facilities for that time period.

Duh! Here I was willing to pay an extra $59 per month to have access to what is included at no extra charge in the program fee. I am so glad my husband held his ground on this and insisted I choose between the membership or the special program!

Kelli, that is great. I am glad you can work out. I keep hoping that the Y will give coachs' families some sort of break. Paid employees get free memberships at our Y, but volunteers get nothing. (Except we know our kids won't be coached by crazy people.)

That doesn't seem right since you are already "donating" your time. You ought to get some compensation and it wouldn't cost them anything to let you have a free membership. Perhaps they are afraid everyone would start volunteering and they'd have no paid memberships? Hmmmm.

I am so happy for you. You have no idea how this little tale of sychronicity has made me smile for you tonight. I'm thrilled (though admittedly just a wee tad smidge jealous) and I know that the stars have lined up just for you! :001_smile: Go now and be fit!
