Julie in CA
One of the textbooks I need for a class that has already started is no longer available as a kindle/ebook version on Amazon. Upon searching, I found that it's available from plentyofebooks.net for free, but it seems like it must be a scam? Anyone know about this? I guess it links to Rapidshare, but I don't know anything about that either.
HSinNH
Nope, sorry. But, I will be listening!
Mergath
These websites are of, er, questionable legality, and the books are pirated copies. However, I've always thought that it should be illegal to charge what they do for textbooks, so I'll be on your side if you choose to believe that the two illegals cancel each other out. ;) If you do download it, make sure your antivirus is running first. What I'd prefer to do is download the copy to my tablet, because I need it, like, *yesterday*, but then also buy a used hardback copy from Amazon. Does that make it any less illegal? :001_unsure:

The question of whether or not it's legal to download a pirated copy of something you've paid for is a bit... fuzzy. However, they're almost certainly not going to come after you for it. I've never heard of anyone getting so much as a naughty letter from their ISP for downloading books. Obviously, opinions on this differ.
