Parrothead Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I've been looking at fitness websites the last few days. There seems to be this craze for women to want big, round butts. What is up with that? Why? I'm trying to find ways to get rid of my butt. I certainly don't want it big. I wouldn't mind a bit of firmness, but the whole round butt has me wondering why. Quote
jessicamcc Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Not sure why this is becoming a trend. You can get plastic surgery to make your butt look bigger. Um, I'm okay in that department. I guess we should be glad- maybe curvy is making a comeback? Quote
Joker Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Like this? I couldn't resist. Sorry! I've never heard about this new craze and don't get it either. Quote
DianeW88 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Well, I think they just don't want flat, shapeless butts. And, btw, Brazil Butt Lift is a fabulous workout! Quote
Seasider Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Surgery? Nah. Chocolate shakes and cheeseburgers. If I am going to pad my fanny I am not paying a surgeon. I'll take the chef's knife. I used to blame it on J-Lo, but Kim Kardashian is perpetuating the look. Quote
Dandelion Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Yeah, I don't get it either. There have been quite a few news stories in the last year or so about women becoming horribly ill and even dying from silicone butt injections gone wrong. I think this is one trend I'm going to avoid, even though I've got a good head start. :p Quote
QueenCat Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Well, I think they just don't want flat, shapeless butts. And, btw, Brazil Butt Lift is a fabulous workout! I'm thinking it is more this.... shapely, not flat. Quote
PachiSusan Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I've never understood the attraction of overdeveloped butts. However, I come from a family of all flat butts that need belts to hold up our pants cuz our butts don't, so I do see the attraction of finding SOME definition. I'm way out of touch anyway becauseRock hard abs and overly muscular bodies are not attractive to me. Quote
HappyCrazyMama Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Does my butt look big in these pants? Not big enough! I've seen some of that too and don't get it either. It does seem to go beyond just toned and shapely to me but I'm not into the uber toned look anyway. Quote
Parrothead Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Okay. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is a bit weird. Quote
HappyCrazyMama Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Okay. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is a bit weird. The good thing is you can't get that look on accident.:) Quote
Jennifer3141 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Dagnabit, now I have the big butt song stuck in my head. Parrothead, you owe me a margarita now. :cheers2: Quote
mommymilkies Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Lol my goal is more for a strong butt, but round would be preferred to the post-baby flat I have going on. ;) http://www.alignedandwell.com/katysays/when-in-doubt-stick-your-butt-out/ Quote
Dandelion Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I used to blame it on J-Lo, but Kim Kardashian is perpetuating the look. Nah, it all started here (sorry - couldn't resist): Baby Got Back Quote
Elinor Everywhere Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Nice to see a trend that doesn't encourage starvation diets. J Lo started it by not worrying about her booty, and Kim Kardashian is carrying the torch. You go, girls! Quote
SFM Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Well, YAY! I suppose I am in fashion now! ;) Thanks, Ma. Quote
Barb_ Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I think as America becomes less and less white our perception of beauty is changing. The skinny white blonde of the 70's isn't our beauty ideal anymore. It isn't a coincidence that as the US grows more brown fuller busts, hips, and rear ends are coming into style. Of course popular culture has to push everything beauty to its outer limits, so the butt thing has grown to ridiculous proportions (see what I did there?) Quote
Catwoman Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 A nicely shaped butt is a good thing, but a really big butt on an otherwise small body looks ridiculous to me. I would never, ever want Kim Kardashian's oversized and disproportionate butt. Quote

Catwoman Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 It seems to me that all the crazes are matters of exaggeration. Trout lips, bolt-ons, and now bubble butts. If sone is good, more must be better. NOT. :iagree: Quote
lovemykids Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 And, btw, Brazil Butt Lift is a fabulous workout! Is it? Oh, I want it now! This is a Beachbody workout that I have not tried. :thumbup1: Quote

Those enormous busts on 98lb women have nothing to do with skin color. Those babies come in plastic baggies at the doctors office. I would think it is an aesthetic balance thingy. More ballast on back keeps an overloaded top deck from tipping over? Speaking of pirate ships, wasn't it Keira Knightly who had to have her chest digitally enhanced to satisfy American audiences? Sorry. I have been thinking about this since Downton Abbey. British actresses look different than American actresses. Quote

Barb_ Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Ok. Maybe it's just p*rn that's done it. Ballast...heh heh Quote
Parrothead Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Round Butts RULE!!!!! If you say so. :confused1: Quote
elegantlion Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Finally, I'm trendy! Seriously, my genetics gave me a J-Lo butt long before anyone knew who she was, even when I was skinny. It truly was a source of angst for many years, school was torture sometimes. There are many women with a well-enhanced natural derriere, it's about time someone wanted to be like them. Maybe it will make jeans easier to find. Seriously, there are plenty of benefits to having a strong backside, regardless of its size or shape. Quote
Soror Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I think our culture takes everything to an extreme, boobs, butts, lips, etc. However, I think it much better than everyone trying to be a waif. Curvy hips (and butt) are natural for most women, not the straight lines of models. I think it is insane that for so long that our culture has had some idea that having hips was some unhealthy thing Quote
jar7709 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 A fondness for round rears is not new. Just fashion coming back around. Bustles, much? ;) Quote
Moxie Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 A fondness for round rears is not new. Just fashion coming back around. Bustles, much? ;) Yep. Except on the runway, curves have always been popular. I don't know many men who thought Twiggy (Twiggie?) was sexy. Quote
DianeW88 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Is it? Oh, I want it now! This is a Beachbody workout that I have not tried. :thumbup1: I love it!! It helps to lift your bum, so it's not flat, spread out and reaches all the way down to the back of your knees. That is just as unattractive as Kim K's giant rear, IMHO. LOL Quote
nono Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I am holding out for when saddlebags become "in." :bored: Quote
justamouse Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 If you say so. :confused1: It's a Brazilian thing. The Brazilian bumbum. Not huge, but lifted and round. I used to hate mine when I was a kid. Now? My curves are awesome. Kids have kind of deflated me, though. Quote

I'm working on toning but I don't want it a whole lot smaller, I like my hourglass, curvy shape. Quote

SKL Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 About a year ago, a friend did a blog post about a product that is basically to pad your butt. (You know, like some people pad their bras.) We got a good laugh about it. I am neutral on this development. I have enough butt to get by either way. But my 6yo skinnybutt will be hoping that the pendulum swings back the other way after about 10 years. Quote
8circles Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I don't know. I think anytime you're trying to make yourself something you're not or taking things to their extreme its a little ridiculous. I'm hopeful that our definitions of beauty will keep expanding to encompass all natural body shapes. I happen to think that KK's but is attractive, as was Twiggy's. :tongue_smilie: Quote
unsinkable Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Trivia: Name the sitcom and the character who bought the HubbaHubba Hiney. Quote

I much prefer round and lifted instead of flat as a pancake. Quote
fairfarmhand Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I have been thinking about this since Downton Abbey. British actresses look different than American actresses. I don't watch television, so could you explain this to me? Pictures might help too. Perceptions of beauty are a funny thing. Quote

I have no idea what Kim Kardashian (like the star trek character?) looks like much less her butt. I'm not even sure i know who J. Lo is. Quote
Barb_ Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I have no idea what Kim Kardashian (like the star trek character?) looks like much less her butt. I'm not even sure i know who J. Lo is. Kim kardashian. The butt speaks for itself. Quote
itsheresomewhere Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Trivia: Name the sitcom and the character who bought the HubbaHubba Hiney. Wasn't it Laverne and Shirley? Now name the show where the girl bought the grow boobs creme? Quote
VeganCupcake Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 A flat butt means you're probably burning out your knees and on your way to urinary incontinence, if you're not already there. Those glute muscles are pretty important. As Katy Bowman says, Save Your Knees, Build a Butt. Quote
Parrothead Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Wasn't it Laverne and Shirley? Now name the show where the girl bought the grow boobs creme? Seinfeld? Quote
Parrothead Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I found a photo of the Kardsashian woman's back side. Wow! That is so not the look I'm going for. Quote
crazyforlatin Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Well, I think they just don't want flat, shapeless butts. And, btw, Brazil Butt Lift is a fabulous workout! Are you referring to this $73 dollar DVD set? http://www.amazon.com/Brazil-Butt-Lift-BASE-Kit/dp/B00337MOMO Sorry, can't link properly on iPad. Quote
Catwoman Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Wasn't it Laverne and Shirley? I vote for Laverne and Shirley, too. Poor Shirley bought it. :) Quote
itsheresomewhere Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Seinfeld? Nope. Think a very family show with brothers and sisters. Quote
