Mrs Twain
I am thinking about enrolling my kids in one or more online classes for 5th grade and during middle school (6th-8th). We are looking into the possibility of sending our kids to a public high school, and I would like to have them do one or more online classes to get used to learning in a class setting and being graded by someone other than dh and I. Also, I need to find online classes which our local high schools will likely accept for high school credit, such as for Algebra 1, Geometry, and a foreign language. I have learned that our high schools often do not accept homeschool classes (done at home with the parent) for high school credit, and they often require homeschooled students to retake classes even though they have already have mastered the material. Do you know of reputable online classes which are good quality and which public schools may be likely to accept as high school credit? As above, I am mainly looking at Algebra 1, Geometry, and foreign language.
BlueTaelon
K12 courses are accepted, the only time you run into trouble is classes that need wet labs.

Most high schools have tests for Algebra 1 and Geometry to gauge whether the student can skip the subject. For reputable online courses, some schools still want to see if the student has taken a proctored exam for that subject before the student is allowed to skip. Mrs Twain
Most high schools have tests for Algebra 1 and Geometry to gauge whether the student can skip the subject. For reputable online courses, some schools still want to see if the student has taken a proctored exam for that subject before the student is allowed to skip. If my child has to take an exam to skip a course, then I wouldn't bother with online classes. I would just teach him at home myself. I am wondering if anyone knows of any certain online classes which have been accepted by high schools, so that the student isn't required to take a separate exam at the school. For example, perhaps EPGY classes are usually accepted? Perhaps CTY classes are accepted? Does anyone have experience with this?
