Whereneverever
Help! The last time I regularly painted my nails was high school and I painted them black all the time. I don't think that is socially acceptable for me at this point, though! I'm in my upper twenties. I live in Wyoming. I don't know if that's pertinent, lol. What nail polish colors are popular? I don't think I like French manicures or whatever, I'm not that high maintenance. Someone, help me! Of someone wants to assist me with makeup, that'd be awesome, too. Whereneverever
Actually all colors of nail polish are popular these days. So is decorating them with designs or graduating the color. Nails are really fun these days. Check these out from Pinterest. These are my favorites Galaxy Nails Graduated/Ombre Nails Jewel Tones/Multi Color Nails Ombre nails how-to Wow, awesome! I love those! And I won't look like I'm trying to be too young or anything? Any makeup help, too? :p
Whereneverever
At your age? I wouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty low maintenance as well. I figure painting my nails once a week (with top coats), but taking some extra time to decorate them feels less high maintenance. That's pretty much my me time. Makeup? I can't help you too much there. Lol. I wear minimal makeup. I do love Philosophy Supernatural Foundation. It's super easy to put on. Pinterest has some great tutorials on how to put on your eye makeup based on your eye type. ETA: Forgot this great site for beauty tips The Beauty Department Thanks! gardenmom5
I only do my nails for special occasions. my experience is the polish seriously weakens my nails and I have to wait three months for them to grow out to get strong again. Audrey
What you need is the Nail Board at MakeUpAlley. Those girls can answer all your questions and more. Many post pics of their NOTD (nail of the day). Many are very fancy polish jobs, but if you just go and say you're kind of new at this again, you will get all kinds of helpful responses. They have boards for fashion, make-up, skin care and more. I highly recommend it for info on any of these topics. They also have a huge reviews section. I always check there before buying any new make-up or polish. I give myself a little manicure and paint my nails every Sunday. I find the polish helps keep my nails from splitting and cracking. My favourite polish brands are Avon, Sally Hansen, Essie and OPI (in order of price). I always use a base coat (Essie) and I use a rapid-dry topcoat (OPI). This week, I have on Sally Hansen "Red Zin." Last week it was OPI "Berlin There Done That."
Mabeline
My tips that I have learned, mainly from Pinterest: For nails- use a base coat, a good quality nail polish(opi, esse, or china glaze), and a good top coat (seche vite) For makeup: check out ELF at Target. It is very affordable and good quality. They also have very good brush sets. Keep checking Pinterest for makeup ideas, I have found very useful tutorials there. Also YouTube has lots of gret videos. Just search your coloring or eye shape and you will get lots of ideas. Good luck!
somo_chickenlady
I bite my nails, so I never paint them b/c they would look horrid within a day. LOL I also leave my nails short b/c they are fragile and break easily. I do keep my toenails painted, though, and I usually paint them some shade of pink or red b/c that is what my DH likes. ;)

justasque
Any color is fine, IMHO, so long as it's done well and not chipped. A base coat and a top coat is essential. You might want to spend the $10 and go to the salon to get it done, just once, so you can carefully watch how the pros do it.
Audrey
This is rally helpful. I have never done a base coat and top coat! I'm going to go look over there, thanks! The base coat protects your nail, smoothes the surface and gives the polish something to which it can adhere nicely. It helps to reduce staining, but wearing dark coloured or red polishes will still leave a bit of yellowing for some. The top coat protects the polish. It also gives a great shine. If you want to make your manicure look perfect for a lot longer, make your first swipe along the outside edges (tips) of your nails. Then stroke down the nails. Do that with basecoat, polish and topcoat. It helps reduce edgewear and delays chipping at the tips.
Elinor Everywhere
And you are still plenty young enough for black - it's still quite fashionable, although I *think* it's on its way out.
kateincali
And there are nail stickers! I currently have this beautiful gold background with black flurishes. I love it because it looks like I went to all this trouble, when i didnt! they go one pretty easily. but once you open the package, you have to use them. they have a little stretch to them, so even if your nails are bigger they will fit. http://sallyhansen.com/products/nails/nail-color/salon-effects-real-nail-polish-strips
